Six of the company's fired workers interviewed at a protest outside the Vernon plant last week insisted that their Social Security numbers were legitimate.

"My Social Security number was good all these years, why is it suddenly no good now?" asked Eva Macias, a 19-year veteran of Overhill Farms. "We left our youth in that plant."

I have been a firm supporter of many unpopular immigration policies, and I posses strong liberal values. I have been opposed to many of the proposed (and a few real), strict immigration enforcement policies of recent years. This is one I back even with all it's unintended consequences for the innocent families of those caught cheating the system. Cheating has it's consequences. Being a responsible bread winner means planning for the day the roosters might come home...

It's unique idea. Lets treat ALL people the same, and apply the law evenly to everybody. Even Hispanics with questionable pasts. No, they are exempt. Overhill says it gave the workers 30 days to correct the problem with the IRS and provide the company with verification, but none did so.

I stand thinking they had 30 days. They should have straighted it out.........if they could. They should apply the rule of law and nothing is wrong here at all.

No matter what the circumstances, if you are in this country illegally, you are a criminal. You can't sugar coat that or white wash this fact. Illegal aliens need to be, and should be, immediately given a ride to the boarder and escorted out of the United States. If they want to be an American, do it the right way and for God's sake, learn how to speak English. I get so tired of going to Wal-Mart and everywhere else and listening to all of the Spanish.

If the highest court in the land deemed stealing someone's identity acceptable, what can be done now???? The Supreme Court ruled that when a person with a fake identity is caught, that person is not guilty of identity theft cause he/she apparently did not know that the SS number was false???? Can anybody make sense of what is going on in this country?

??? And what planet have YOU been living in the past many years? I know many and have heard of many via the media who have had their identity stolen via the SS card.
