Thank you. I just bought a new set of tires and this is something I need to talk to my mechanic about when I go in for my next oil change.

The factory tire pressure recommended is based on an extreme condition such as the car is always totally full, including the luggage compartment, ergo the pressure is too low. 1.2 persons in the car is normal per averages.

As a teen- I got myself a '57 Chevy. I was small and the steering wheel seemed to dominate the front seat. HUGE! I felt I may need to hop up on it and run like a hamster, but I eventually learned to drive it.

Anyways... My Unka Jim insisted that if we were going to own and drive cars, we had to know how to put gas in it, give it a tune up, check and change the oil... all the good stuff.

Me, my siblings and all my cousins were richer for the info, and more confident as well.

I told a guy one day that his tires looked low on air and he said that he knew but he does not drive much besides around town and wanted a more comfortable ride.

My 2500 HD says 60 for normal driving 80 when pulling a heavy load.

Think I need to let some air out. Not pulling camper now

I would suggest that the vast majority should be more concerned with their own body tyre pressure before worrying about increasing car economy by 0.001%

Or bettering their " night time special driving " if they are men -- my husband excepted ( in case he sees this ) .

I run my tires low. I tried pumping them up higher once but one of them just couldn't take the pressure.

Dude, the optimum psi depends on both the tire being used and the conditions. There is no one-size-fits-all pressure best for all tires.
