Almost all white people are familiar with the racist tropes and stereotypes that the bigots in Trump world embrace and bellow in public.

I’ve heard it all my life. And even the most casual walk through American cultural history indicates that it was alive and well long before my time.

Most of us let it pass. it is so deeply ingrained in the culture. it is not necessarily hate filled. Nor does it mean to be deliberately oppressive.

But the hyper racist crowd that follows and cheers for Trump the loudest, are openly hostile and cheer for the oppressive thuggery.

But now, the US has a leader who openly embraces it, campaigned on it, and seldom misses a chance to diddle his core base by promoting it.

I am curious though regarding this idea of Trump being a racist. It kind of started when he made the comment about their being "good people on both sides" that was taken completely out of context. Closing our border, for example. That is not racist. That is pragmatic and common sense, but many actually believe that he did it because those crossing our border illegally are mostly Hispanic. He anointed himself “king of the birthers”, and claimed he sent his people to look into Obama’s birth certificate. Of, course, he made that up.

The right wing media and talk radio audience was fully aware of that long before 2016. he actively promoted it.

During the 2016 campaign he promoted a Muslim band, and switched from attacking blacks to attacking Hispanics.

Both were all about appealing to white resentment, fear, and playing to bigotry.

This was well before Charlottesville.

The “both sides” were Trump’s exact words. They were allowed to fester for several days before Trump repudiated the skinheads. (dispite keeping close ties with many of their leaders)
While closing the border may make short term sense, the ongoing campaign of masked roundups, thuggery, prisons and railroading captives is not.

It is so flagrantly racist that theTrump regime has appealed to the courts to permit racial profiling as legal, since it is the only criteria that ICE raids are based on.

He was talking about people who where there to protest the taking down of the statues for historical reasons, not white supremacists or neo-Nazis. He condemned those groups straight up. He was also condemning the ANTIFA types that were there. They are also "bad" people, thus there were some bad people on both sides.

Closing the border for ILLEGAL entry makes perfect sense in the long or short term. Removing those that have broken the law and entered into our country ILLEGALLY is not thuggery, it is common sense.
