An entire Dollar General staff has walked out of their Wisconsin premises due to staffing issues and poor pay and conditions.

Staff allegedly didn’t want to leave their customers in the lurch, but their manager claimed they were underpaid and overworked, and wanted their work to be appreciated by customers and the company. A letter was also found near the entrance of the store, giving more details on the staff's decision to walk out.

Our local DG has shut down randomly many times because of lack of staff.

Can't say I blame them. Seems like a terrible place to work.

LOL....DG is like a Gladiator School for a better job in retail. ;)

Good for them

The Public can survive without a Dollar General
I have one about a mile from my house but have never been in there
I like the idea of a mass walkout rather than individuals making a decision to “Take this job and shove it”

Only way to get management to change is to hurt the bottom line

I say good on them. Maybe next time the company will pay employees a reasonable wage.

Why is it that Leftist have the delusion that all businesses have infinite cash resources and are selfishly holding back on compensation to their employees ???

Why is it that Leftist fail to grasp that private and common stock companies owe compensation to their stock holders/investors ???

Why is that Leftist fail to grasp that stocks and bonds, etc. of private, for-profit businesses is what pension funds, IRAs, and 401Ks, etc. are invested in, and growth of these retirement investment funds depend upon profitable operations and growth of what they invest in ???

That's a dumb non sequitur. "Infinite resources" are not required.

And to answer your question while ignorung the non sequitur, the answer is:

ALL OF THE DATA

Record corporate profits year over year as wages stagnate. Increasing executive pay at rates 10s of times faster than wage increase of labor.

Thanks for asking.

I don't know if this applies to all Dollar Generals, but the ones in the Houston area seem to function as job providers to people whose only skill is being able to find a bar code on a package and hold it over an in-counter scanner. If those people want better jobs, they should learn more marketable skills. I'm very sure that DG has a management program, if they are willing to make the effort.

My neighbor worked at the nearest Dollar General for years. She could walk to work, which was a big plus for her. Then she got a job that paid better at the nearest Ace hardware. To get that job, she had to be willing to learn the hardware business. She did and now she makes more.

Nothing is free, unless you are willing to be on the lowest rung of the economic ladder and live exclusively on welfare.

One thing I find is that when I have some random items that I need for the house, and stop at DG, I'm always pleasantly surprised at how low the total is at checkout.

Why is it fascist have the delusion that all employees should accept being treated like shit and just bow down and thank their employer for giving them a job

No it is not!

My decades of experience is that Leftists apply this same greedy non-reasoning to many small businesses, not just large corporations. BTW, there are far more small corporations in form of LLCs, which it appears many Leftist fail to realize or understand.

Solution would be for more Leftists to have to work for profit incentive, such as place where there are profit sharing plans, and/or try their hand at starting (with their own resources) and operating a small business venture.

Another solution would also be to teach some real economics at K-12 level of education.

You just proved my point in post #5 that most/all socialist/communists fascists are greedy and expect others to provide for them.

Start a business out of your own pocket/finances and get back to us on the huge pay and benefit package you provide your employees with.

Dollar General warehouses have rodent infestations. Dollar General is where you go when you got no other choices and only enough change in your purse to pick up one or two things.

And you just proved my point. In your world it is cool for an employer to treat their employees like this since the employer is the one that "started the business".

You remind me of a manger I once had that asked me why I was nice to the folks in my department, when I said that a happy employee is a better employee she laughed out loud at me.

What is a "reasonable wage," and how would that impact the current pricing that many consumers rely on for their basic needs?
Exactly.

Raise the minimum wage to 15 dollars, and the employees will celebrate their next paycheck.

Then be able to buy only the same amount the next time they shop for food.

Meanwhile, the inflationary pressure of the minimum wage hike will reduce the purchasing power of people on fixed incomes like welfare and social security.

The left's inevitable solution? Another wage hike!

.

Judging by my most significant experience with Dollar General, I sure hope that at least ONE employee got a good yelling at.

When I was buying my home in the Midwest and selling my home in Western WA, the only option for overnight shipping of some important papers to the title company in WA was the FedEx drop-off point at the DG in my little town. I went and left the packet and got a call from the title company three days later asking where the documents were! So I called the DG and spoke to the manager, and she just about broke an ankle tripping over herself, apologizing because the docs were still sitting there.

I would really hope that the employee responsible got a good yelling at, and if she felt that was mistreatment, then all I can say is go ahead and walk your ass off the job so the company might be forced to hire some competent folks.

The DG store here is grim and grubby looking and I've only used it one other time because the place is just not inviting.

Managers run the full spectrum of human types. If you had more experience you might realize that.

A few decades ago one of my self-employment(business) efforts involved subcontracting a furniture delivery service.

Fees we charged the customer were set per type of furniture and distance if outside our basic delivery area. I paid the guy I subbed from a percent of weekly gross revenues, paid for vehicle operation expenses, especially fuel for the truck, and had a hired helper who rode along to help carry large items like sofas and dressers etc. I paid this helper just slightly more than minimum wage. He spent about 90% of his time on the clock just riding in passenger seat and looking out the window, or reading.

There were several weeks where his paycheck was larger than mine, mine was "net profit" after all expenses had been covered, including his wages. It never developed into the profitable venture I was lead to believe from the guy I subcontracted from, so eventually I quit that contract and "laid-off" my helper.

Situations similar to that is why about four out of five small business ventures fail and close down within the first three years of start-up.
This is the sort of thing that most Leftist don't know or understand.
