Yeah, they get big. They're a guardian breed. I think around ten thousand years old.

I'm around 75 inches tall, give or take an eighth inch, and mine stares me in the face when he stands on his hind legs and gives me a kiss.

Not all dogs protect their owners. It's a matter of training, temperament and the relationship between dog and owner. Seems to me the more troubling aspect of this is that some scumbag mugged a woman in broad daylight.
