What the people need most is government off their backs and working as a servant of the people instead of an uncontrolled unfathomable monstrosity that sucks the people as dry as it dares. The people living and working to better or satisfy themselves is what creates prosperity, better lives for all, moves civilization forward in a good way. Each person taking responsibility for their own welfare as much as they are able will inevitably enable others to do the same. A government that presumes to do that for them will only sidetrack and hinder the whole process.
Having said that I am not at all anti-government. Good government will facilitate and is necessary for good, productive societies that are free to benefit themselves. I am strongly opposed to government that tries to micromanage the people in order to benefit itself.
