The congress looks like a fifth wheel. Why elect separate legislators if the executive branch can carry out legislative functions?

We need legislatures with teeth and that represent the people and not simply a political entity. Without it, we have a dictator who will ignore our laws and rule rather than represent.

You choose the executive branch. It represents people.
In theory You can choose not only the president, but also his cabinet and the entire vertical

Traditionally, it so happened that in the United States, the right is called republicans and the left is democrats, formally there is no difference between these concepts
