Your nation was born because of the persecution of the Catholic Church against members of Reformist faiths. After centuries of wars, the Spanish Inquisition, and the violence of the Catholic lead governments against their own people, freedom to worship as you see fit was a guiding principle, but the Founders wanted religion kept right out of politics.
