I may not be able to prove this right now, but these recent events are not what folks on either side think it's about.
I think it's another dialectic (Problem - Reaction - Solution)... the unstated goal being a rebranded NAU. But we'll see what happens and where this is all going.

I don’t think that is the case anymore.
Even though Trump will be gone in four years, they can’t trust us not to elect another Republican again
and we ultimately beat the UK in the War of 1812. The UK was at the time the largest military power in the world, and had to wave the white flag.
We actually offered the settlers living in what is now Canada a chance at freedom....but they refused and still to this day remain subjects of the King, and ironically dependent on us for the security
Don't confuse relationship with friendship. Trump's punitive tariffs are strictly targeting unacceptable 'unfriendly' practices by other countries. When those unacceptable practices are corrected, the tariffs go away. It's like the guy who pretends to be your friend but is using you for his own benefit is finally confronted. Sometimes he becomes a real friend. Or not.
World leaders were scrambling trying to get an audience with President Trump at Mar-a-lago between the election and inauguration. Pretty much everybody but the fanatical terrorist types want to be our friend.
They did, then Xide and the Demafacsit surrendered to terrorist, got held in contempt of the UK

I sure hope he doesn't. Every now and then he actually makes a decent post that suggests he knows better. But maybe not. Who knows? I would guess he won't acknowledge what a true friend of the USA is and what isn't though.
