Conservatives believe in charity, but not the practice of subsidizing able-bodied people who don't want to work. The entitlement mentality has turned many productive people into public parasites which isn't good for anybody. I am happy to support truly disadvantaged people (quadriplegics, the blind, etc.) but most people on public assistance are able-bodied. Do you disagree with this point of view?

The problem with a place like Venezuela, along with many others, is that it has a history of government corruption. It's difficult for government to be beneficial for the people when the government is, in fact, ripping off the people. A welfare-state system of governance might work fine in Denmark because they have a tradition and culture of following the law. Running such a system in Venezuela and expecting that it will work is a fool's errand. The only way to fix some of those governments is to scrap it altogether and start all over.
