...what the role of government should be in society? Is it accurate to say that left-wing ideology supports more government programs, more government management/oversight and higher taxes wherein right-wing ideology supports having LESS of those things?

O'rly?

Trump Proposes a Record $4.75 Trillion Budget

The deficit was DECREASING when the GOP took over Congress. Trump and the GOP have since INCREASED the deficit to DOUBLE its size.

And the last time the GOP owned all of Congress and the White House under Bush, they also skyrocketed the deficit and the debt.

You have to be a retard with seven pounds of brain damage to drink the piss you idiots are fed that the GOP is all about small government.

Seriously. You have to be stupid, stupid, stupid.

While many voters on the right say they hold those beliefs, the people they have voted for over the last 100 years or so do not hold those views.

This is what happens when "conservatism" is broken down to just a few social issues and fiscal conservatism does not matter.

The right claims to want less of those things, but they don't practice it.
Some claim to be on the right just like some are Republicans but legislate like leftist Democrats. Still, there are many on the right that oppose government takeover of the health industry and the existence of the Department of Education and government involvement in the student-loan business, etc. Unfortunately, there aren't enough of us.

The conflict is between Liberty and Equality.

They are natural enemies---Because there is a natural Inequality in Ability (and Motivation as well). Thus motivated talented persons given the Liberty to go out and do their best---will naturally get ahead and destroy the Equality that the Socialists want.

The Natural Order is directly opposed to the notion of "from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs" (Marx).

As this nonsense can never stand in the long run (and never has)---Force becomes necessary to maintain Socialist Artificial Equality. Force to restrict Liberty.

That's is why these Ignorant Socialists (No Work Free Stuff--Equality) quickly become Communists--they need force to Take Away the property of the Talented and Motivated. That takes Big Government necessary first, and very quickly Totalitarian Government.

Been going on for centuries. It's only new to those educated in public schools in rotting Northern cities run by Democrats for half a century.

Not knowing what the OP said, I'll just add my own 2 cents. IMHO, the fundamental difference between the 2 parties is collectivism, i.e., the prioritization of the group over self, as opposed to individualism. Basically a greater dependence on a bigger gov't vs individual independence. Not to an absolute either way (I think).

Is it your view that the right supports government takeover of health care, higher taxes and more social programs, as the left does?

Exactly. They feed you a bunch of bullshit about how they don't want those things, yet they pass legislation that regulates what you can and can't do with your own body.
Your baby's body is your baby's body, not yours. In any event, please don't hijack my thread. If you want to discuss abortion, start your own.

Yep. Nice way to make capitalism look as bad as possible and motivate people to look at other options.

And they think they're the economic experts.

The left favors even more government than does the right, but to characterize what the right supports as "less" government is nonsense.

No.

Leftists are parasites, thieves or very low status people. They want all the decent, good, beautiful and true destroyed. Whether its done by government means or other means is all but irrelevant to them. But obviously, government has power and these people are attracted to it like bees to honey.

but these same people have no issue with the DOD getting larger and larger and larger.

Seems the difference is which part of the government they want bigger

Wasn't talking about abortion, but nice to see that is the first place you go on that thought. What I'm talking about is legalization of marijuana. It's not a drug, it's a plant, and it is much less harmful than alcohol, as well as is not physically addictive in any way.

And yeah, the conservatives and the Republicans want to pass legislation that messes quite a bit with a person's personal liberties.

So you're saying that the right and the left both want the same amount of social programs and taxation? Am I understanding you correctly?

The only real difference between the two parties is one side claims they will allow you to pee wherever you want.

They can't practice it, because they are pushed by the left (due the leftist antics of using more and more government power inappropriately), to use more and more government power in order to counter the leftist usage of more and more inappropriate government power.

I agree with you that supposedly free people should be able to ingest anything they like and should be free to pay another competent, consenting adult for sex. However, my focus with this thread is the amount of government programs, spending and taxation that the left and right want.
