Better intelligence than animals, but the biggest danger to human beings is other human beings.

Elsewhere, I've been in discussions about alien civilizations. Human beings have been looking for several decades now and have come up with zilch. The Fermi Paradox is in full play:
if there were civilizations scattered across the stars by the billions, why haven’t we heard from them?

Since there is no other signs of life in our solar system and we haven't been able to find any other signs elsewhere. One reason could be that life is very, very rare even though, by the one example we have, once it takes hold, it's very tenacious. Even if we wiped ourselves out as mentioned below, life would continue to exist.

That said, one speculation that I favor is that "When civilizations become advanced enough, they risk destroying themselves". Be it nuclear weapons, poisoning our own planet or playing around with genetics and bioweapons, the human race has come close to pushing ourselves back into the Stone Age if not completely wiping out our own species.
