Bush and his team did the same thing in Florida in 2000. Republican national operatives were sent to the Florida recount to disturb the process. They got angry and stared a riot. Trump's hope was to delay the cert past 1/6 which is the required date for cert and without cert force the vote into the House where he would win.

This resulted in multiple felony counts for Trump, multiple felony convictions for the supporters he threw into the fire, and will result in Trump's conviction is federal court.
