In 2020 both results were outliers jumping by over 10M from the previous election. Trumps 11M jump wasn't because of mail in ballots. They were voters turning out for both candidates. Fully engaged after being locked down for a year and scared about the future during a worldwide pandemic. Trump was blowing it so his opposition turned out in record numbers. The economic conditions are still tough for many after 4 years of Biden. His voter enthusiasm faded. After he dropped and Kamala took his place she was unable to capture the same levels of support as 2020. She did exceed what Hillary did, but it paled in comparison to what Trump was able to rally as an opposition candidate with a base pumped up with lies about a stolen election.
