He would be 2 years out of office in 28. In other words 2 years removed from having any kind of voice or reason for anyone to pay attention to him. If he waits he likely never gets the nomination. Mr Trump, while you may not have gotten caught officially colluding with Russia, your sons met with Russian operatives in Trump tower who said they had dirt on your opponent. 1) DeSantis doesn’t seem to have that kind of personality. Trump would be more than happy to roll around in the mud. DeSantis not so much.
2) This would be a very difficult balance for DeSantis. He would need to go after Trump but he wouldn’t be able to go too hard because he can’t afford to alienate the many Trump supporters backing him.
3) Like you said, the age thing is a factor. DeSantis has time. He can shrug this one off and come back in 2028 with no problem. I think this will be his move.
