So....
It's on the chopping block.
But I remember when it was doing nothing more than not forgiving Student Loans it was contractually obligated to.

Here's a thought though....
We have an epidemic in our public schools that this department MUST address.

Teachers sexually abusing their students.

It's reached epidemic status in our public schools. In just ONE year there will be 10X more complaints filed than in 50years of Catholic schools and churches.

This article suggests that 10% of students have been sexually abused by teachers in public schools.

Not a federal responsibility

Not a federal responsibility
At least gathering and publishing statistics would be THEIR JOB. The federal government tracks the progress of all students religiously.

To paraphrase 'W' : "Our childrens isn't learning". Abolish the DOE and give the money and the power directly to the states where it always should have been.
The Dep of Education is where the states apply for federal dollars for the loan programs and money for school lunches.

So you want the Federal Government to issue strict guidelines on how schools track and identify abusive school personnel?

More than that, they fund Pell Grants, provide funding for special education and help school districts in impoverished areas

Fake News.

That's 5 million Students.
Why can the writer of this article only (should be Zero) find 6 examples.

And there is this..........Miller said, noting that in 2021 the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops reported it had received nearly 4,300 sexual abuse allegations.

In just the past month:

  • In California, multiple students filed a lawsuit against a male music teacher who had taught at three different schools in the San Jose area. The teacher is already serving prison time for previous convictions in sexual misconduct cases with students.
  • In New Jersey, a female middle school teacher was arrested for an alleged ongoing sexual relationship with a student.
  • In Texas, a male teacher was arrested for allegedly having a sexual affair with a 12-year-old student.
  • In Illinois, a female substitute teacher faces charges of “grooming and predatory criminal sexual assault” for an alleged relationship with a sixth-grader.
  • In Washington, the arrest of a male high school teacher on charges of sexual misconduct with a minor represented a repeat nightmare for a school district that previously had a psychologist convicted on the same charges.
  • Just last weekend, a 36-year-old New Jersey teacher was arrested on multiple assault charges involving a sexual relationship with a teenage student.

To paraphrase 'W' : "Our childrens isn't learning". Abolish the DOE and give the money and the power directly to the states where it always should have been.
And W had two Ivy League degrees and could not pronounce, nuclear.

Hopefully the highly unpopular D.O.E. will be getting defunded/liquidated & education returned back to the states where it belongs. There are MANY advantages to this with two of those advantages being parents will definitely have more say in their children's education as well as lower cost due to frivolous/politicized agendas being axed. Some states will also benefit from terminating the teachers union$ which are a "hot bed" for debauchery/endless legal litigation.

That statistic seems preposterous...like the one in four college coeds who experiences sexual assault.

Regardless, the Federal government has NO ROLE TO PLAY in enforcing state laws on sexual abuse and statutory rape, or anything related.

The whole point of eliminating the Dept of Education (which will never happen) is that education is not a Federal responsibility, and thus, according to the Tenth Amendment, it is reserved to the States.

At least identify problematic schools and school districts. Offer parents vouchers for school choice starting with problematic school districts.

I was NOT suggesting that the DOE play any role in law enforcement. But where the article only listed a few instances...the problem is growing out of control. And the article cites a study...what the parameters of the study are...I have no idea.

It's definitely an epidemic....it's definitely NOT like it was when I was in school.

The USDA could handle the school lunch program.....They handle the food stamp (EBT) program.

The Department of Transportation (DOT) could handle infrastructure grants (building schools) to the states the same as they do roads, bridges, etc.

Federal involvement in student loans should go away entirely.

States should be allowed to keep X amount of tax remittances for school funding much the same way as they do the profits off of gambling.....If they squander it on teacher unions and student loans then that is on them.

There....No need for the DoED.

They don't have the time & resources for anything besides making our public schools worse in terms of actual student outcomes while providing a trough for Teacher's Unions and "consultants" to feed at.

Shut 'er down.

Most of your post secondary education schools would instantly be bankrupt. Enrollment would be limited to the ultra rich instead of any who are capable of choking down the loans.

However, a review of WHAT degrees are worthy of student loans and how they are repaid is subject for review. Currently the universities have increased student costs to match every bit of student aide available. Not just tuition but also fees and freshmen requirements of on campus living and various permits and foodservice options.

They currently consider a microwave oven on a counter and a sink a kitchenette. Students are really not allowed to cook unless it's a culinary school with a commercial kitchen.

It's the Dept of mooching deadbeat Dem losers who can't get a real job so yeah, axe it and fire all the Dems.

The Federal Government should run all schools, like in most of the industrialized world.
Those countries outperform US schools

Leaving it to states, you end up with situations like Texas demanding the Bible be taught
