Department of Education

Most of your post secondary education schools would instantly be bankrupt. Enrollment would be limited to the ultra rich instead of any who are capable of choking down the loans.

However, a review of WHAT degrees are worthy of student loans and how they are repaid is subject for review. Currently the universities have increased student costs to match every bit of student aide available. Not just tuition but also fees and freshmen requirements of on campus living and various permits and foodservice options.

They currently consider a microwave oven on a counter and a sink a kitchenette. Students are really not allowed to cook unless it's a culinary school with a commercial kitchen.
OK, then why couldn't the states handle the loans? The feds do not need be involved.

Private banks used to do it (Stafford loans) with subsidized loans but the federal government took over the program directly. (Too much fraud and abuse....just like the Farm Credit program currently has going on)

At least identify problematic schools and school districts. Offer parents vouchers for school choice starting with problematic school districts.
This will solve NOTHING.

You will still have the same teachers, and same shitty students, whose parents have no control of their behavior, but sure, keep living your dreams that VOUCHERS and school choice will eliminate the problem.

Care to explain your solution.
You can't, you won't.
But you will keep screaming Vouchers and School Choice.

So....
It's on the chopping block.
But I remember when it was doing nothing more than not forgiving Student Loans it was contractually obligated to.

Here's a thought though....
We have an epidemic in our public schools that this department MUST address.

Teachers sexually abusing their students.

It's reached epidemic status in our public schools. In just ONE year there will be 10X more complaints filed than in 50years of Catholic schools and churches.

This article suggests that 10% of students have been sexually abused by teachers in public schools.

We don't need a Dept of Education to address that. We have had a Dept. of Education since 1979 and misconduct by teaching staff has only increased. There is no direct link between those two things of course, but we can safely conclude the Dept of Education is totally ineffective in stopping or even discouraging improper sexual and other conduct by teachers and administrative staff in the schools. That should be addressed by the local community given license to deal with it. Which I'm pretty sure a Trump Administration will encourage.

If the Dept of Education and its bureaucrats and 4,400 employers are just sucking up $90 billion or so in hard earned taxpayer dollars every year without producing any improvement or even meaningful support for education, it should be eliminated. Currently the smart money is that it will be.

$90 billion here, $90 billion there in savings could add up to real money.

I don't know a solution....only allowing light to the problem of Public schools being a major target for predators....

Considering they simply hand out money....it's not a good department.

Bush Jr was the last one to address the issue of requiring something out of the states to qualify for the funds and the Democrats whined incessantly.

California would be giving out the children's school money to homeless illegal alien pedophiles

Of course not.

Imagine all the puzzle pieces on the top of a table.
Some could be upside-down, broken, soft around the edges, perfect and unflawed, etc.

Now simply just move those pieces randomly around on top of the same table, and you have your solution.

Yup, it's that simple and very effective.

Ok....
Well let's look at the state of Oregon where it's rare NOT to be sexually assaulted by a public school teacher.

You would think they would do something positive but no....they have made it worse lately.

Back it up with some data.

Back it up with some data.
Here's a thread on X that explains in detail....it goes way beyond the initial post with all sorts of documentation as to how Farm Credit works and has oversight. Also congressional letters of known and obvious corruption

The Dep of Education is where the states apply for federal dollars for the loan programs and money for school lunches.

Wrong again, school lunches are administered by the Dept of Agriculture. The Dept of Education has been nothing but a waste of resources. Also there is no constitutional foundation for its existence.

Free lunch is run by USDA not the Department of Ed. It is part of the farm subsidy regimen.

Your claim about teacher abuse.......back it up with some data.

I didn't mention Cows.
Sorry....got two threads going.

But as far as Oregon schools. Just Google "Oregon teacher arrested". It's not for tax evasion or DUI. Any week is the same as last week. This week it's only three.

Psst….

School lunch funding is through the US Department of Agriculture, not the Department of Education.

So you want the Federal Government to issue strict guidelines on how schools track and identify abusive school personnel?
Shoving electric vehicles down our throats is a federal strict guideline. Granholm another Prog socialist woman who is helping to destroy the western world. Her and Whitmer Michigan governors phukn over what's left of the American auto industry.

Jimmy Carter created the Dept of Education as we were needing school loan programs (at the time) because of the Technology coming in electronics, physics, and Phameceuticals.

What happened is it became bloated and bad schools created just to get things like GI bill dollars and school loan dollars while not really teaching. Of course the others, after things loosened, ballooned their costs.

Today most colleges and universities are flush with cash.
