I keep seeing the Democratic Party on social media post these sob stories about how people are struggling during the shutdown. One would think they would be okay with passing legislation that would okay paying our military and some federal workers then, but no. This continues to be a power play. The American people are an afterthought.

We are not in a government shut down. About 70% of government workers are still on the job.

Shouldn't we dispense with this nansy-pansy type of "partial" shutdown bull crap.

If Congress is going to shutdown the government than they should be required to actually shut it down. None of this "essential" work force bull shyte.

Shut it down and make it painful so that Congress will really hear from constituents.

Government workers (all of them) are sent home with no back pay for time missed. This includes EVERYONE.
  • Air Traffic Controllers get to stay on the job until aircraft have landed, no new flights are allowed to take off or enter American air space from other countries if they took off after the shutdown time.
  • FBI, Border Patrol, NSA, CIA, etc. - Go home. We'll call you to come back.
  • Government processing of financials stops.
  • No Social Security checks issued.
  • No Medicare checks issued.
  • No VA checks issued.
  • No pay for the military.
  • No pay for military retirees.
  • If you are a contractor for the federal government, sorry no cash for no work.
  • Payment to State and School districts for everything stops.
  • Federal Courts shut down.
  • Federal Prisons? Lock the inmates in their cell with a week’s worth of MRE's.
  • etc.

Congressional staff is sent home. The only ones allowed to work in the empty Capital Building are the actual members of Congress because under the Constitution their compensation cannot be reduced during their term of office so they are the only ones getting paid.

If a shutdown was a real shut down Congress would think twice before ignoring their responsibilities and pulling political stunts.

I think the democrats have made their disdain for the American people very clear with the continuous obstruction of anything other than "Trump Bad" for the past 8+ years.

Your linked article itself went to:
Thune to force Democrats to vote on paying the troops during the shutdown

Which is it having been a political ploy. I'm not sure how the Democratic Party gets the blame here.

Trump himself and Trump's Party (the MAGA/GOP) refuses to deal with the Democrats unless the government under the shutdown is opened up. Democrats do that and there goes any hope for compromise and non partisan agreement on things important to the American public.

For democracy to function, compromise is an essential ingredient.

You appear to be not all that informed.

Katherine Clark has stated everything we need to know. The shut down is for leverage.
My take away is We the People are the pawns that the democrats are using to garner power
for the party.

The Republicans are in control. They have pushed Democrats out of every decision in both houses of the Congress. No compromise with Dems. Trump's orders.

So, you too want to use the American people as pawns for leverage?
Figures.

Get the government employees that are working PAID, that is essential.

Good try but polling shows that the American people overwhelmingly are blaming Republicans for this mess. Your propaganda is not resonating.

Considering that no cuts have been made and none will until Nov. 21, it highlights the fact that the democrats are not interested in negotiation or compromise based on their refusal to pass a clean CR and do what they are paid to do. Projection is not your friend.

If the democrats wanted to negotiate and compromise, they wouldn't have wasted the valuable negotiation opportunities that would have been used over the past 23 days. Kudos to Fetterman for publicizing the fact that democrats are putting party before country.

44 democrat NO votes to the CR is how the democrats get the blame. Glad I could clear that up for you.
If only the world were as simple as you two are.

Context and facts are important here, but you resist that. Okay.

now, I remember this:

Mike Johnson Snaps When Shutdown Comments Thrown Back in His Face How can you say, ‘They take no pleasure in this,’ and then the next minute say, ‘Oh, they’re just having fun and trolling people?

Fox News congressional correspondent Chad Pergram
pressed the speaker on his claim. "Square something for me. How can you say, ‘They take no pleasure in this,’ and then the next minute say, ‘Oh, they’re just having fun and trolling people?’" he asked

Ask house minority whip Katherine Clark what she thinks about the hurting American citizens that are nothing more than democrat "leverage" (her words), Dainty. Fail AGAIN.

FOX on Fetterman's words:

The Democratic senator also condemned what he described as "extreme" rhetoric from party leaders, referencing President Donald Trump being labeled a "fascist."

"Extreme kinds of rhetoric make it easier for those extreme kinds of actions," he said.

"I refuse to be a part of it and comparing people to Hitler and those things," he added. "If that's what's required to win, then I refuse to."

Fetterman cautioned that inflammatory language is steering the country in the wrong direction, saying, "We’ve lost the plot."

"I refuse to call my fellow citizens fascists or Nazis or those things," Fetterman said. "If somebody wants to primary me or the party wants to vote me out, I'm going to go down being honest and telling you that this is wrong.
"

Yet Fetterman ignores extreme" rhetoric from MAGA party leaders Trump, Speaker Johnson and others. Trump himself constantly calls Dems "traitors," "unpatriotic," and "communists" or "Marxists" and Speaker Mike:

Speaker Mike Johnson says leaders shouldn’t call opponents “Nazis and fascists” over policy disputes, arguing it fuels division. Yet #DonaldTrump repeatedly does just that — calling fellow Americans--

“the enemy from within,” “Marxists,” “communists,” “scum,” and even “a bigger threat than China or Russia.” He paints millions of people as traitors who “hate our country.”

That’s the hypocrisy: Johnson warns against rhetoric he knows is dangerous, while Trump leans on it as his political brand. This kind of dehumanizing language isn’t debate — it’s fuel for deranged people who see it as permission to act violently. Leaders can’t demand civility from critics while excusing Trump’s own words that put lives at risk.

I noticed you didn't dispute what I said.

Thank you for affirming you engage in the same tribalist thinking. Have a nice day.

headline: Democrats Block Federal Worker Pay Bill as Shutdown Drags On

Democrats said they opposed the G.O.P. measure because it would hand President Trump wide latitude to pick and choose which workers receive compensation while the government is shuttered.

A Republican measure that would pay essential government employees faltered in the Senate, and the G.O.P. blocked a pair of Democratic bills to pay a broader swath of workers.
