Democrats name their price on ending government shutdown

Schumer’s offer also called for short-term funding bill known as a continuing resolution (CR) and the attachment of a three-bill minibus of full-year spending bills that were a part of previous bipartisan talks.

No, not bupkis but a CR and a working and funded government for a year.

What Republicans seem to want is the Democrats to simply give them what they want in exchange for counting on their goodwill for negotiating on extending ACA tax credits but you know... without any negotiating power. Because everybody knows the GOP under Trump doesn't strongarm.

Now I say, do it. Let's see what happens and when 20 million people lose their coverage and don't get health insurance anymore let the GOP own it. In fact, that would be my condition. End the shutdown in exchange for the GOP taking full responsibility for what happens to ACA.
The Dems own it. Lock, stock, and barrel.

Full stop.

It's almost as though the Republicans don't want anything passed and want lower income earners punished.

Almost.
You meant democrats, I'm sure.

The Republicans have vote 14 times to feed the lower income earners but the left keeps getting in the way.

That’s where I think you’re mistaken.

The GOP is about to relearn why Social Security, and by extension, healthcare, is the third rail of American politics. See, Cletus in Alabama doesn’t care about politics. He voted for Trump because it felt like sending a bomb into the status quo. Fun, until the blast radius reaches his insulin.

When his government-assisted plan becomes unaffordable, and he can’t buy his meds, suddenly politics matters. And when the GOP controls the House, Senate, and Presidency, it’s hard to blame the opposition, especially when the majority keeps saying, loud and clear, that they don’t want to help him.

What Democrats are doing is simple: they’re making sure the consequences of gutting ACA tax credits are owned by the GOP. If that’s the hill you want to die on, denying healthcare to millions, go ahead. But don’t pretend it’s not a choice. And don’t pretend it’s not yours.

Dems set the date for the subsidies to expire with no republican votes, and now, like most dems, they don't want to be held responsible for their own decisions. They're trying to place the responsibility on republicans, and have their propaganda machine in high gear.

.
The republicans are 100% responsible being the party that contols all 3 branches of government and both houses of congress.

The fact they can’t govern has never been more vivid.

Democrats name their price on ending government shutdown

7 Nov 2025 ~~ By Stephen Neukam & Stef W. Kight

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said Friday that Democrats would vote to end the government shutdown in exchange for a one-year extension of expiring ACA tax credits, multiple sources told Axios.

Commentary:
So basically, the compromise is the socialists get what they want, the republicans get bupkis. They want one year because they think they win congress back in a year where they can then ram it through and control a second shutdown.
It's a distinction without a difference. This is STILL trying to put the camel’s nose into the tent, and with the resulting dislocations later on. The place for these spending measures is in a full and real appropriations bill, not a continuing resolution.
Kicking the can down the road only further damages the can. Besides, we are running out of road.
Senator John Kennedy has the right idea.
The Senate should not be paid their monthly salaries until they vote .
If Democrats are willing to stop the government allow the military, air controller and SNAP recipients to go without, then they should also go without the salaries until they sit down and negotiate and leave hostage taking to terrorists.
And then next year, they’ll hold the government hostage to get another year.

Let’s do it for six months. Otherwise, the Dems will blackmail the country again next Oct.

We’d just be going back to the way Obama fashioned the tax credits, claiming health care would now be affordable. So let’s go back to his plan since it was supposedly so great.

This is gonna get cute real fast with people getting no SNAP and the airports being a disaster. Good. Let the Dems own it all.

The problem is the leftist media is making it seem like it’s the Republicans’ fault, and as we’ve seen, there is no shortage of ignorant and gullible people in this country.

I love kabuki theater.

Schumer shows up with his pack of proto marxists and says that if they can just extend the COVID price supports to obamacare they can all hold hands and sing kumbaya. GOPers voted no.
Funny thing is, a variation of this was offered to the shumerites early on and rejected.

I’m all for keeping this faux shutdown in place, though I’d rather a real shutdown

Republicans refuse to negotiate or compromise.

The people see this lack of governance.

Dems are just setting this up for the same thing next Oct. They’ll hold the government ransom again

It’s not the Dems first choice, but a reasonable compromise. It gives them a year to figure things out. Maybe Republicans can get their shit together to do budgets and appropriations via regular order but that requires actual work and this Congress seems allergic to that kind of thing.

The Republicans might do better in the midterms if they shown they’re not completely useless.

What are Republicans proposing? A two month continuing resolution.

Cmon. Don’t lose perspective.

We need to dismantle the Obamacare hoax and return to where things were. We had many more people able to afford health insurance before he crammed this down our throats.
