It seems that Left Leaning states are looking potentially charging the rich who leave....an exit tax of some kind.

Democrats believe all our money belongs to them. They believe they have the moral and legal authority to take the money we earn and redistribute it to their preferred constituencies, while ignoring (or even facilitating) massive fraud and enriching themselves in the process.

Rather than roll back wealth taxes, Democrats have decided to tax the people even more in the form of an exit tax, and that concept is gaining traction in blue states.

Couple states already have an exit tax to some degree.

The California exit tax is 0.4% of an individuals' net worth over $30,000,000 in a tax year, no matter where said worth is located—within CA, other states within the US, or overseas.

The New Jersey exit tax requires former resident to withhold either 8.97% of the profit/capital gain made on the sale of their home or 2% of the total sale price, whichever is higher.

Pennsylvania does not have an official exit tax, but it does have a "deemed sale" provision that can result in a tax liability for some residents who move out of state.

I don't see it for individuals. If a state or city inside a state gave big tax incentives to attract businesses, and a business pulled out, without the state recouping, maybe.

I did a glimpse of the article looking for any substance about any proposed exit tax. The headline strikes me as typically bogus as often the case in these rags pretending to be news.

I indicated it wasn't happening yet.

And some think it will never pass legal muster.

However, some have posted saying CA and Washington already have it.

It is generally aimed at high earners.

Which in and of itself is illegal.
