Here in Central Europe it is a custom to cut twigs from fruit trees an that day.
Put them in a vase in a warm room, and they will be in bloom on Christmas Day.

So this Thursday is the day of the Barbarazweige, as we call those twigs in German

And name them according to the Saint of the day
