Yep, it basically means NEITHER pilot screwed up. This blood is on the air boss's hands.

But the reason I gave before as to why the planes hit stands. He never saw the B17. It was under his engine cowling the entire time.

Nothing I said in my first reply was wrong. I explained how the fighter pilot could have hit the B17 and never see it. I NEVER speculated as to WHY it happened. I only stated HOW it happened.

He did not even allocate minimums on altitude, he let the boys 'wing it', and his radio call for the fighters to pull in front did not specify the B-17 that was in front of the fighters, leaving the fighters (and the P-63) believing they should lead the formation and to get in position. As the P-63 raced to do this he had traffic in front he didn't see and was not warned of.

No we didn't. We knew a few days later, but by then people were saying that the p63 hit him on purpose which is absurd. But the NTSB does not say the air boss was arrogant. In fact it said he had 20 years of experience doing this.

That means nothing. When two planes collide during an airshow with a performance such as this, the first person blamed is the airboss. That's normal.

To be clear, I'm not saying the air boss wasn't at fault. I'm simply saying its normal to blame him/her first. Doesn't mean they are at fault. But I'm certain this time they were.
