Cruz to Republicans: Limit voting at all costs

Republicans are engaged in extreme voter suppression that has NOTHING to do with voter ID - such as various actions to limit access to the polls. Limiting access to the polls has NOTHING to do with voter ID.

Individuals who are uneducated, uninformed, and/or uninvested in the betterment of the nation shouldn’t be allowed to vote.

we don’t normally put the inmates in charge of the asylum, why would we put them in charge of our entire nation.

The Texas senator rallied his GOP colleagues around the issue on an invitation-only call heard by The Associated Press.

On an invitation-only call last week, Sen. Ted Cruz huddled with Republican state lawmakers to call them to battle on the issue of voting rights.

Democrats are trying to expand voting rights to “illegal aliens” and “child molesters,” he claimed, and Republicans must do all they can to stop them. If they push through far-reaching election legislation now before the Senate, the GOP won’t win elections again for generations, he said.

Asked if there was room to compromise, Cruz was blunt: “No.”

Why are Republicans so desperate to limit voting rights? Voting fraud has been thoroughly proven to be nearly nonexistent; therefore, one can only assume they don't want certain groups of voters voting for Democrats. I predict that this will not end well for Republicans. We must not allow a resurgence of Jim Crow voter suppression. What do you think?

Why are Republicans so desperate to limit voting rights?

Why are Democrats so desperate to limit voter ID?
This is a lie – Democrats do not seek to oppose voter ID.

When a new voter registers to vote, it’s perfectly appropriate, warranted and Constitutional to require that citizen to provide proper identification.

Once a voter is registered and remains eligible to vote on the registration rolls, there is no need to require ID at each election given the fact that voter ‘fraud’ by identity is so rare as to be virtually non-existent.

Requiring a lawfully registered voter to provide ID at each election is an undue burden on the right to vote because voter ‘fraud’ by identity is so exceedingly rare.

Democrats aren't the ones doing the cheating!

Right. That's why they resist vote ID and cleaning voter rolls. DURR.

Are you suggesting that Republican states don't adequately supervise voter ID? If anyone's voter ID is in question - then they are given a "provisional ballot" until they prove they are a legal voter. It ain't rocket science...

Most states don't. Because Dems fight it tooth and nail.

“Why are Republicans so desperate to limit voting rights?”

Because they know that when voter turnout is high, Republican candidates tend to lose elections.

It is an article of religious faith among Republicans that when a Republican loses an election, it’s the consequence of the myth of voter ‘fraud.’

In order for Republicans to reestablish or maintain their minority rule, they need to undermine voting rights, seek to suppress votes, and disenfranchise citizens they perceive to be likely Democratic voters.
dead people often vote for democrats...somehow???

Here is some food for thought about Republican voter suppression in 2020:

Non-Hispanic white people are a shrinking percentage of the U.S. population and won’t be a majority within a few decades. They’ve held on to grossly disproportionate political power and wealth through discriminatory tactics that go back hundreds of years. As that power is threatened in 2020 by demographic shifts and backlash to a deeply unpopular president, the effort to rule from the minority for a long time to come has become more desperate and more brazen.

Slow down the mail.

Speed up a Supreme Court appointment.

Shut down polling places in Black communities. Open up more in white ones.

Stop counting people of color in the 2020 Census so they have less representation in Congress and fewer federal dollars invested in their districts.

Just stop counting the actual ballots. (After all, that tactic has worked before.)

And prohibit government agencies and schools from talking about the parts of U.S. history that reveal the track record and rationale behind these tactics.

Voter ID is suppose to make sure that the person who is voting is legal and in the state that they reside in, is voting in that state - and not in another state. Of course, these days with the technology that someone can easily make an ID (a fake ID) and use that anywhere - and that is where that lies the problem. In some cases, someone in California would cross the border to Nevada, and vote twice, and it would be counted as a vote. Without any knowledge of officials even knowing that he/she voted again, from a previous state. But also, the officials in Nevada (as they sometimes would say), I didn't know he/she voted already in California. But we already counted him/her vote in anyways.
Another reason, is to prevent in at any cost, for illegal immigrants to vote in the first place. Once they go through the Naturalization and Citizenship process, they are more than welcome to participate in our elections.
And last, but not least, I believe in the past, some Voting booths (as I call them) have accepted to count "dead people" as votes. Does that mean, we are now allowing the "Walking Dead" to vote?

The founding fathers had it right. America was a better country when the dumb people weren't allowed to vote.

States that don't have minorities don't have the same problems as states that do.
