Ted Cruz topped Donald Trump in a new national poll released Wednesday.
The NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, conducted after Saturday’s GOP debate, found that 28% of Republican primary voters supported Cruz, while 26% supported Trump.
They were followed by Marco Rubio at 17%, John Kasich at 11%, Ben Carson at 10% and Jeb Bush at a lowly 4%.

The shift comes after Trump outraged many within the Republican party by slamming George W. Bush’s decision to invade Iraq, as well as his admission that Planned Parenthood “does do wonderful things but not as it relates to abortion.”

Nevertheless, polls have shown Trump maintaining a substantial lead in South Carolina.
A new Bloomberg Politics also released Wednesday found that Trump held a 19-point lead over Cruz in the Palmetto State.
