BU wrestling victorious in final home match | The Daily Free Press

A very big mistake by a once great university. Perhaps the end of the career of a great man and an important program. Greed, deception, and the use of an asinine rule as an excuse by sweater-vest wearing pussies who can't understand the value of a real sport that tests character even as it creates it have all led to one of the most unfortunate developments in Boston sports history. This leaves a stain that will NOT wash away. It's an inexcusable disgrace.

"Usually a successful season finale leads to hope for the next year, reason to work even harder in the offseason to improve upon the growth of the year gone by.

But for this group of brothers, Saturday night’s contest marked the home finale for the entire BU wrestling program."

Why did they shut it down?

I believe a large part of it is because some sweater-vest wearing, limp-wristed assholes found it too 'rough' and 'brutish.'

We KNOW that it was because BU took a deal worth millions from New Balance to build a nice new field so they could add men's lacrosse as a sport (guess who sells lacrosse equipment?). You can bet a lot of those millions fattened up a lot of pockets. Adding a men's sport meant, due to the idiotic Title XI, that some other men's sport would have to be cut (or another women's sport added where there was no demand for one). Guess which one Winthorp Buttercup III found worthy of cutting?

Wrestling at BU cost very little to run, was very successful in every sense, and was widely supported by the student body (and even by programs in other schools - even in other sports!).

But, some asshole decided to pull the plug and that's just what they did. Stabbed a great coach in the back and pulled the rug out from under a lot of kids who had devoted their lives to the sport.

Oh no. First the summer olympics, and now this.

It's a shame that some folks don't appreciate wrestling for the great sport that it is. They should not however deny others the right to participate in and enjoy the sport.

Wrestling has been reinstated in the Summer Olympics. One victory at least.
