its not profitable for Russian companies to invest in america, yet they still do it out of a sense of pride for their country and loyalty to Putin.

"it is impossible to divide he interests of a country like russia and a company that works on its soil. our interests are the same. what's good for Russia is good for the company" - Vagit Alekperov, head of Lukoil, the largest oil company in Russia, told the NYT's Peter Maass

Putin and the russians no longer view america as an implacable enemy bent on emasculating russia, according to Ambassador Mike McFaul.

that old antagonistic perspective is no longer the dominant view according to putin and the foreign policy elites in russia

"if russia consolidates a liberal democracy at home, i have no doubt Russia will develop into a lasting ally for the US" - McFaul bellowed

after 2016, my friends, the idea of Putin as a force for global stability has crumbed, and McFaul has since walked back his remarks!

i dont mean to be rude but i also want to be clear, my friends. the oil and gas industry is a big casino that can produce both power and triumphant great gobs of cash, with little regard for merit. that equation invites gangsterism, extortion, thuggery, and the sorts of folks who enjoy those hobbies.

its practitioners lumber across the globe causing mindless damage through climate changge.

this thread wont catalog the whole slimy slick that the oil industry has left behind all over the world.

think of it as more of a guided tour of some of the landmarks, like Africa and Oklahoma, and Russia, of course. but naturally, gnash your teeth all you want Vlad (i call Putin "Vlad" or "Vladdy Daddy"), it all starts right here in america...its always america

Trump has the same traits as John D Rockefeller...he pinches pennies, has an eagerness to devour and expand, has a mistrust and even hatred for government regulation, has a vaguely delusional sense of a higher calling.

its worth keeping these traits in mind, because they have shaped the modern world. they still function as a character sketch, or a psychological profile of the richest most destructive and most powerful industry in the globe!

the era of low cost energy is almost dead, my friends. Popeye is running out of cheap spinach!

Russia might not be a superpower anymore, or have a strong military or a great economy, but by God, Russia has oil. and now they are supposed to give that up to the americans too? the thought to Putin is somewhere between nauseating and enraging.

"for my friends: everything, for my enemies: the law" - Putin
