Yes conservative England is not quite Jerusalem. 13 years of failed housing policy has led to no homes to buy or rent.
Of course that is incidental. Conservative interest rates mean that npbody can afford to buy a house anyway,
Its a failure of markets. A failure of conservatism.
It also infects Wales where the collapse of the english housing market causes Welsh border areas to be sold off to people who cant find a home in England.
The conservative disease spreads across borders.

I wonder how much money each British citizen provides the Royal Family.

LOL. You don’t have any “conservatives“ in the UK government.

This is your open borders policy as UK has taken in so many refugee and foreigner trash. They also don’t allow much new construction of home, and few small shitty apartment flats.

I didn't know that Socialism was also called Conservatism.

That is interesting, what we find in the US is housing shortages in many cities because of land use regulations, there is not much room to expand, and the land is very expensive. Therefore, less land, highly regulated and very expensive, but this is an issue in cities such as Seattle, San Francisco and other left leaning cities. Of course, unaffordable housing leads to a homeless problem that have encampments now springing up all over cities and neighborhoods.

So, it is policies of conservatives and liberals that create these issues, to claim it is all one sided seems dishonest.

The land use regs in Britain are even more onerous....The quote in #4 is beyond apropos.

You have a lot more space than we do. The regulations on the whole are fair. Nobody wants unregulated development.
The problem is political. Tiru MPs represent loads pf pretty little places that dont want more housing . They fight to obstruct development.

Another issue is land banking. The developers own most of the land and drip feed development in their own interests rather than the interests of the people. As you would expect really.

There is also a shortage of skilled people since we left the EU. The brexit brains didnt consult any sector on how they would be affected.

Tradesmen can now name their price and costs have risen because of it.
None of the parties has an answer to it. But the current lot have had 13 years and failed.

I would build on all the private parkland. There is too much of it. Its nice to look at but not if you have to drive through streets of people living rough.

Every immigrant, legal or otherwise, you welcome in with open arms is one less place for a citizen to live. The town and country planning act that lead to a decline in housing growth was enacted by Labour in 1947. Inviting more people in when you live on an island is not helping matters. I suppose you could build a house and sell it at a loss if you want to help with a solution.

The same issues exist here the land is sold to huge developers and the property is high as it is low space for sale. There is a shortage of land in prime spots, that increases rural property prices, which has little demand unless it is in a boom area like Boise then it shoots ups the prices dramatically.

Skilled workers are in short supply in this country as well, as they started retiring during the pandemic, the younger generation as no interest in skilled labor, that increases time to complete projects and increases costs as well. All I know is more regs, higher prices, more permits, fees and taxes higher taxes, less workers higher prices and long delays. Just post-Covid life at least that is the way I see it.

In Wales we also suffer from second home owners buying up houses and forcing prices up.There is a lot of land in our high streets where retail has died out. But nobody has worked out how to convert that yet.
