Congress forcing new tanks on military

They need to listen to the military, though the army may change their opinion whenever Kim Jong Un really goes overboard.

It would be monumentally stupid to fight a conventional war with North Korea. But heck, conservatives are monumentally stupid. We fought them in Iraq and Afghanistan. :doubt:

uhm

NK has a standing army, in uniforms, not a but of terrorists in towels, so conventional is clearly on the table.

A ground war in Asia is insanity.

Good. DOD has a poor track record of anticipating needs for future wars and allowing the production line for Abrams tanks to fall out of use would make it harder to ramp up production when the inevitable happens and DOD suddenly says, "OMG! We need more tanks!"

People need jobs. And who the hell is going to hire a former politician?

but seriously

250 Billion a year to improve a tank that is unchallengeable on the battlefield?

Nothing like getting a bigger hammer when you need a wrench.

$250 billion?

You sure?

Somebody needs the sales, ergo the American people must buy tanks.

But you don't mind giving Muslim Extremists those tanks, do you? Hey, we had to pay for that too.

What "Muslim Extremists"?

In any case, I am in favor of cutting all foreign military aid. All of it.

You guys make exceptions.

Uhhh, the ones that blew up 3000 people on 9/11? The ones who bombed the WTC in 1993? The ones who bombed a hotel in Mumbai? Or the ones who attacked an embassy in Benghazi?

Those extremists.

Yeah, that's the problem with you Liberals, too busy fighting people to cooperate with them. You people are such babies.

Seriously dude.

Stick to stuff you know about.

Sallow misses Uncle Saddam

He was a rotten turd, but I bet he wouldn't let Iran get nuclear weapons.

 crony capitalism/war corporatism. People who build those tanks have jobs and they vote Repub. The Executives of those companies get compensated well (ironically by the taxpayers & you know 98% of them are conservatives ;) ) & *cough* "donate" to political campaigns.

After all the name-calling, back to the thread:

This has been going on for all of the years I can remember in my 70+ years.

A business donates to a congressional campaign with the idea the candidate, if elected, will think of them when the occasion arises. The more times the candidate is re-elected, the more power they gain - the more favors returned to donees.

I am willing to bet the the chairman of the committee - both Senate and House - have personal interests in the companies doing the work the Army feels is unneeded. Keep their constituents happy = more campaign donations and better chance at re-election!

Other than term limits - which will never happen - what do you suggest? :eusa_whistle:

whats the final tab on the grandkid's credit card, in $ and lives, for taking that one guy out so that pro-iran, islamists could take over?

Since when does the Army COS get to criticize congress? Civilians in the greatest Country in the world run the Military and Generals are supposed follow the chain of command without taking shortcuts and using the media as pressure. Years ago the long haired maggots in the media would be spitting on generals. Today they use them for political purposes.
