Their idea was that societies would naturally move from capitalism to socialism, and then beyond that to a huge commune, with no social classes, money, or government because everyone shared everything, equally.

Dictators such as Lenin realized that masses of working-class people (proletariats) loved the idea, and used revolutionary force to make it happen put themselves in charge.

Lots of others followed suit in other nations, because convince the poor people that only you can give them the equality they so desperately want, and they'll put you in the palace forever.

I agree if we need to quibble. Otherwise, since Government is Social-ism, this is what we are supposed to be doing with our federal form of Constitutional Government:

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
