I've heard about and read about a lot of college professors, social justice warriors, progressives, and self described communists talk about how great communism is.

But none of these people ever actually immigrates to a communist country.

Actions speak louder than words. No matter how great some people say communism is, I never, ever see or read about any of them actually immigrating to a communist country.

Show us those countries and let us know if they are under Sanctions by the US. Sanctions are not Capitalism.

You obviously need much more education on the subject. Do you even know the difference between communism and the many degrees and forms of socialism? Apparently not...

I was very much talking about communism, not democratic socialism. I am very much aware of the huge differences between the two.

Lots of people immigrate to Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Norway. Those are great countries. They are capitalist, because the means of production is privately owned. They have big corporations that make lots of profit, such as IKEA and LEGO. But, they also have generous welfare systems, with free health care and free college. That's not communism. It's capitalism, combined with a welfare state. And it works very well.

No one who praises communism ever immigarates to Cuba, North Korea, or Venezuela. These are countries where the government has seized the means of production.

Likewise, when the Soviet Union and East Germany were still around, no one who praised communism ever immigrated to those countries either.

Then why do I see so many people wearing Che Guevara t-shirts?

Why do so many college professors speak in favor of Marxism?

Why do so many left wing protests have people carrying pro-communist signs?

as a sane and rational liberal progressive I must admit I don't know a single person who thinks COMMUNISM is a good idea.

none of them admire Venezuela or Cuba, either.

But they do seem to admire social democracies like Norway and Denmark...

countries that still maintain CAPITALISM along social programs for the general welfare; affordable education and healthcare.

Norway and Denmark are awesome. They use capitalism to create wealth, along with a generous welfare state to help out everyone who needs it. They understand that a good parasite never kills its host. This is something that communists do not understand.

In Cuba, North Korea, and Venezuela, the government has seized the means of production, including farmland, factories, stores, utilities, and major industries.

This is exactly what communists say they are in favor of. But none of them ever immigrates to those countries.

Sanctions and embargoes always make a bad situation worse. But they did not create the bad situation.

“It’s not only the nationalization of land,” said Carlos Machado, an expert on Venezuelan agriculture. “The government has made the decision to be the producer, processor and distributor, so the entire chain of food production suffers from an inefficient agricultural bureaucracy.”

… Chávez accelerated the nationalization of farms, eventually seizing more than 10 million acres. The government expropriated factories, too, and Venezuela’s domestic food production plummeted…

Instead of spurring growth in domestic agriculture, the government has strangled it, farmers say. Domestic production of rice, corn and coffee has declined by 60 percent or more in the past decade… Nearly all of the sugar mills nationalized by the government since 2005 are paralyzed or producing below capacity…

The price controls have become a powerful disincentive in rural Venezuela. “There are no profits, so we produce at a loss,” said one dairy farmer in the state of Guarico, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he feared retaliation from authorities…

According to Vicente Carrillo, the former president of Venezuela’s cattle ranchers’ association, the overall size of the country’s herd has dropped in the past five years from 13 million head to about 8 million.
