Colorado DMV just revoked the titles to all military surplus vehicles.

They will only be issued an “ORV” (Off Road Vehicle.) title.
This includes HMMV vehicles even if it was purchased from a dealer as a civilian vehicle when new.
No more surplus vehicles in parades either.

Evidently the law was put on the books back in 2019 but not implemented till now.

The Division of Motor Vehicles is completing programming and will complete implementation of this legislation once programming is complete. The DMV apologizes for any inconvenience.

Can't have vehicles of war out on the streets unless they're driven by agents of the state, then it's different. Looks like they got them a cut-out.

Actually, the law makes sense. A military Hmvee is NOT the same as the civilian version. The Military version is at least 8 feet wide making it 2 feet wider than the civilian version. The law specifically names the Humvee. It's just too wide. When you add a couple of mirrors, you are pushing 9 to 10 feet which is beyond the 8 foot limit.

How about a WW-2 MB, cold war era CJ-series (CJ2A) of surplus Jeeps? It seems even the old Ford/Chevy PUs that the .gov bought and surplussed-off are getting the axe too....Gonna make excuses for that too?

I guess they say you can't look like a meathead unless you iz won

The CJ was made for the road as well as the Ford/Chevy PUs. The law does not apply to them. Let me guess, next you are going to blame the Democrats, right?

If a particular vehicle is not suitable for use on public roads, then the government/military should not be allowed to use them on public roads, either.

There's something very wrong with the military making routine use of certain vehicles on public roads, but when these same vehicles are sold as surplus to civilians, the civilians are not allowed to use them on public roads.

A military humvee is seven feet one inch wide.

A class B motorhome (van or sprinter style...the smallest rv available) is seven foot six inches wide.

Semi tractors are 96 inches wide mirrors not included...and semi trailers are 102 inches wide.

So I don't think that's the issue.

Are you aware that the Humvee does not meet the NHTA requirements? But the Hummer does. And it appears that no one is going to go to all the time and expense to bring it up to that standard. The Humvee meets the DOD specs but does not meet the DOT specs.

Tractors and Trailers also meet the DOT (NHTA) requirements.

Change the DOT standards and the Humvee might be included but not until.

My '74 ford f100 doesn't meet the DOT standard either... Should Colorado be able to stop licencing my vehicle?
