Coeur d'Alene sniper shooting: Firefighters shot on Canfield in Idaho...Two dead

Multiple firefighters have reportedly been shot during a shooting incident on Canfield in Coeur d'Alene, a city in Kootenai County, Idaho. Witnesses on social media claim that law enforcement officers may also have been shot and describe the situation as an active shooter event with additional victims.


The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office issued an alert stating: “Active shooter at Canfield Mountain. Injuries are reported, but the extent is unknown. Avoid the area.”

Some unconfirmed reports say the shooter may have started a fire to draw firefighters to the scene before opening fire on them. Videos and photos shared on social media show a fire in the area.

One witness wrote on Facebook, “Some just intentionally set a fire in Hayden ID, near Canfield a few miles north of Couer d Alene and opened fire on the fire fighters and is shooting at anyone in the area.”

Another reported, “Avoid Canfield mountain area! Currant active shooter multiple firefighters shot.”

A third person wrote, “From what they are hearing on the scanner that two firefighters have been shot and possibly a deputy and they are pinned down.”

From what I can get out of the press conference they are still taking rifle fire.

Fires started to lure firefighters on canfield mountain

(Canfield mountain is a HUGE mountain bike and dirt bike system for us locals nad is very thick with lotsa of single track. It has one main fire road to the top)

Fire/EMS arrives sets up.

They start taking fire from one or more shooters. Several personnel hit

Calls go out for LEO assistance

LEO arrives to pinned down firefighters, exchanges fire with unseen suspect/s

LEO shot and down

call goes out for all available backup

More fires set

Also there are an average of 40-50 recreation bikers and moto bikers on this mountain on any given sunday so unclear if any of them have been shot on the mountain

AS of now 1510, unknown people down on mountain including EMS/Fire/LEO

Also it should be known this mountain on a sunday has anywhere between 40-60 people on it at any time.

Two dead. Shots still being fired. Sheriff speaking right now--says they will neutralize the threat. Don't know how many shooters 1,2,3 or 4 don't know. Helicopters there--Sheriff just said "TAKE THE SHOT" as soon as it is available--"We will neutralize this threat."
