Reuters) - A federal official on Wednesday said the U.S. Secret Service had not formally spoken with Republican Donald Trump's presidential campaign regarding his suggestion a day earlier that gun rights activists could stop Democratic rival Hillary Clinton from curtailing their access to firearms.

Following Trump's comment at a rally on Tuesday in which he suggested that gun rights activists could stop Clinton from appointing liberal anti-gun justices to the U.S. Supreme Court, a federal official familiar with the matter told Reuters that there had been no formal conversations between the Secret Service and the Trump campaign.

Earlier CNN had reported that there had been multiple conversations between the campaign and the agency.

"No such meeting or conversation ever happened," Trump wrote on Twitter, accusing CNN of having made up the report.​

In another story CNN tried to insist it was 'obvious' that Trump called for violence against Hillary in his comments about the 2nd Amendment.

CNN's Lemon and Republican congressional candidate and former Secret Service agent Dan Bongino got into a 'heated exchange' when Bongino insisted that Trump’s statement was in no way a call to violence, adding that it was “clear” the candidate was simply presenting himself as a champion of the Second Amendment and campaigning on the importance of Supreme Court nominations. He called it “utter absurdity” to interpret Trump’s “Second Amendment people” comment as a “call to an open revolution and to start firing your weapons at public officials.”

It's understandable since CNN's job is totin' that water for Hillary and the DNC.

Donald Trump said CNN’s Don Lemon is “dumb as a rock” in a post on Twitter on Wednesday.

“Don Lemon is a lightweight — dumb as a rock,” Trump posted, praising Dan Bongino, a former Secret Service agent and a GOP congressional candidate in Florida. Bongino defended Trump’s recent statement on the Second Amendment that the media and Hillary Clinton campaign suggested incited violence.
