So-called “eco-anxiety” is an issue so prevalent that PBS Newshour recently hosted climate psychology therapist Leslie Davenport to discuss how to fight it.

“It can certainly grow into something that interferes with functioning in daily life, keeps you awake at night, gets in the way of enjoying life, becomes really the predominant concern,” Davenport said.

She cataloged an array of symptoms, including “high levels of physiological distress, racing hearts and intrusive thoughts.”

According to the upcoming book “The Weight of Nature” by Clayton Page Aldern, it’s not just eco-anxiety haunting people. There is a whole host of new mental conditions related to climate change, including climate grief, environmental melancholia and pre-traumatic stress disorder.

A recent survey of 16 to 25-year-olds found that two in three say climate change makes them feel sad and afraid. And a staggering 45% report worries about climate interrupt their daily lives.

On TikTok, the hashtag #EcoAnxiety has racked up 48.5 million views.

Popular creators post hair-on-fire claims about imminent doom, like TikToker Coyote Annie who pulled in half a million likes on a video claiming she had an hour-long panic attack over climate change.

“This is the scene of ‘The Titanic’ where they have hit the iceberg,” she said. “If this video hasn’t scared you enough, do a little homework.”

TikTok comments are full of despair — and declarations that “WE ARE DYING.”

“It feels like the government is killing us and our future children, and I honestly cry about it nearly every day,” TikTok user jessiewickham said.

Anissa_riviere recalled: “I remember being told, ‘Your generation will have to fix the world’ when I was 6 in 2001. How could anyone have avoided climate anxiety?”

Kaylamint3 claimed they’ve had “literally crippling” climate anxiety since the third grade.

Indeed ... traditionally, climatology is for students who struggled through two years of college calculus and the prospect of a third year required by dynamic meteorology just isn't going to happen ... for these students, climatology only requires a second year of college statistics ... and graduating ...

However, I see now UCLA has added both LinAlgebra and Diffy Q to the climatology degree program ... I'm guessing to weed out the "B" grade students ...

If you can't understand Navier/Stokes Equations:

... then you shouldn't be discussing advanced climatology ... and neither should the commercial media ...

ETA: Yeah, that's a Cartesian Coordinate system ... the math is much easier using spherical coordinates ... I used this form strictly to look impressive ... and you do have to admit, that crap above looks extremely daunting ... even math majors cross their legs when they see this ... this is why weather forecasts break down after 72 hours ...

In middle school science class we learn that the heat to raise a gram of water 1C is a calorie. Not the surface of the water but rather the entire mass. It's easy to raise the temp of a surface if we're only talking about the top layer of molecules. However, the mass of the earth is so big that if all the the solar radiation received was absorbed (100% greenhouse effect) it would take 10,000 years for the earth to warm up by just one degree C.

For example, there was no Northwest Passage through the Artic Ocean, from Europe to Asia, until 1997, when the Artic ice cap shrank about half its normal size in the summer.
That Northwest Passage had not existed for over 100,000 years before that.
And it was not just an extreme of a normal climate cycle, because the normal warming cycle was about 5,000 years ago, and it is supposed to be cooling off right now.
(There was a convoluted Northwest Passage by hugging the coastal river basins before, but that took 3 years to traverse.)

If you want another example, look at the history of the glaciers that used to be on top of Mt. Kilimanjaro.
The ice layers were over 100,000 years old, and now are all gone.

Nor is there any confusion about the science.
While there are stronger greenhouse gases then CO2, whether solar energy is retained or broadcast out of the earth's atmosphere is determined by the upper atmosphere fringe to space.
And it is only there that is matters.
And there is no water vapor there because it is too cold.
So it is only CO2 that turns radiant infrared photons into vibratory heat that can not conduct away into the vacuum of space.
