"Clean start" rule

It is a good rule, but it should be enforced consistently.

We have a couple of posters in particular, very similar, who start multiple threads that are nothing but racial invective from the OP, and do not follow the clean start rule at all.

I have to think that the mods don't care to spend the time to correct them multiple times per day, so they let it go.

Now that I think further, I have to wonder if the mods' idea is that we posters see those posters for what they are and simply put them on ignore.

Yeah.

Good implied advice, if I'm correct about that.

Goodbye, IM2!

Here's one of countless "clean start" violations that I have reported to no avail.

This rule is excessive and a large percentage of threads violate the "clean start" rule. This rule is obviously not uniformly enforced. Why not just get rid of it? It doesn't advance discussion.
What's the "clean start" Rule. I mostly post in the badlands so I may have missed something.

To me it means make sure you have a clean pair of big boy or girl panties on when visiting this message board and not to get them soiled like the OP does at every little thing. Hence clean start instead of poopy underwear start.

To me the clean start rule is akin to a rule that says one must be sure to cross all their "t's" and dot all their "i's".

Hey Foggy--- the Clean Start Rule is easy to meet. Why not just try meeting it and shutting the hell up. If it gets missed occasionally, that is probably because moderators are not perfect and can't be in all places at all times.

The Clean Start Rule used to require THREE original statements by the OP but apparently that was just asking TOO MUCH.

BTW, if you don't like the rules here, not their obligation to explain them all, but you are more than free to go off and start your own group with better rules somewhere, just remember to let us know when you are finished!

To be perfectly honest with you I don't get the clean start rule in the sense that it doesn't stop the fighting from happening so I find it pointless in that way, but it's their rules and two to three sentences is just stupid getting upset over. 🙄

Well then, that's up to management to explain. Simple really, just post some original content and keep the OP free of name calling, trolling, etc. Plus a few other simple rules: no all caps, no all bold, try to post thread in appropriate forum, etc.

Put simply: try to make the OP count as something you'd have been proud to show your mother in 6th grade...

The rule is an excellent opportunity for an opinionated mod to nit pick threads they don't care for. I could give recent examples, but that's against the rules too.

If you have a particular problem with how we do things, you are free to start a group DM with us. Make your case, cite examples.

It has to do with monetizing the site, and drawing in visitors and new members.

Threads in the badlands don't show up in search engines.

Threads in the main forum will occasionally show up in a search engine, it is the first thing a non-member sees of our board.

Hypothetically, a clean thread would have a better chance to draw in clicks.

I'll put you in mod shoes for a minute, folks.

Let's say a thread title is posted in all caps. Do I A) drop it for a clean start violation, or do I B) edit the title to comply?

B). Why B?

Because if the original material in the body of the thread complies with the rules otherwise, it is not pertinent to delete or lock the thread when a simple edit of the title will do.

If, to your knowledge, they have never done it before, and have yet to read the rules?

Edit the title.

If they have been active on this forum for over a year now and either haven't bothered to read the rules, or just don't care? Lock the thread.

IMO, consequences change behavior more than hand holding.

This is the only way to go if you don't like to work more than you have to.
