Or at least, that's what I always hear at parties, dinners, events, at the office, around the in-laws' place, etc.

Now, I'm not a die-hard Christianity defender, though I do defend it as a healthy part of traditional America. And I can't stand some of its (cough!) biggest enemies.

But I have a simple question for the people who proclaim that "The Christian Right Controls America." What evidence is there of this "control"?

*If they did, abortion would be illegal. But it's not.
*If they did, you wouldn't see near-porn on TV. But you do.
*If they did, traditional roles for women would be encouraged - and practiced. But they aren't.
*If they did, teen pregnancy wouldn't be a big problem. But it is.
*If they did, you wouldn't find prayer in schools banned and Christian symbols and displays made illegal. But they are.

Just a few examples here, but you get the point: if the evil Christian right "controls America," as the left likes to say, they have a dang funny way of exercising their control. Personally I think Jewish power is a lot more potent than Christian power, though I realize many folks (especially, weirdly enough, Christians) get all hot 'n bothered if you say that. Still. As far as Christians "controlling" America, ask the next lefty punk who whines that whine what his evidence is.

Wow WJ, we agree. They don't control US policy. IF they did, all these would be fact, which is a problem IMHO. Funny thing, I agree with a lot personally, but see the slippery slope.

The Christian Right doesn't control much at all in this country, as evidenced by the majority of the federal and state courts are benched by liberal judgeships.

The news media would be another prime example to refute that believe in the control of the Right.

The only area where there is some Right leaning advantage is, is in the area of radio talk show formats. It wasn't always this way. Back in the 60-70's the majority of radio talk shows were moderate to left leaning.

Church attendance has dropped drastically throughout the country, even with the Rick Warren movement in full swing.

People like Robertson and Fallwell don't seem to swing as much influence as they did in the past.

..................

The Right has had more or less influence in the past 20-25 years. Christian leaders have been likened to bafoons, and at times they deservedly got that moniker from being hypocrites.......ala Jim Baker......or Swaggert, but unfortunately the left-dominated media has perpetuated false stereotypical views of biblical Christians in sultry, and exaggerated ways, to covertly promote an anti-conservative agenda.

.....................

Fear mongering by the left, that somehow the Christians of this country are hoping for a theocratic state are unfounded, as the majority of our founders would, today, be considered Christian right-wingers, and somehow they authored collectively the U.S. Constitution.
