Chris Henry, 26, dies day after dispute

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chris Henry has died, one day after falling out of the back of a pickup truck in what authorities described as a domestic dispute with his fiancee.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Henry died at 6:36 a.m. Thursday. Henry was 26.

"We knew him in a different way than his public persona," Bengals owner Mike Brown said of the player who was suspended five times during his career. "He had worked through the troubles in his life and had finally seemingly reached the point where everything was going to blossom. And he was going to have the future we all wanted for him. It's painful to us. We feel it in our hearts, and we will miss him."

Police spokeswoman Rosalyn Harrington said homicide detectives have been assigned to the case but had no further information.

omg listen to you two....going on about this thug.....he was no more than a common thug with good hands.....amazing....it is sad when anyone dies.....it is even sadder when a thug is remembered as "hero" for catching a football...

he jumped into the back of the woman's pick up as she was trying to leave....apparently she was able to toss him out of the back of her truck when she was driving...if this really is the case i dont see any charges resulting....

The kid was plagued with problems and never seemed to appreciate how fortunate he was to be able to play in the NFL. It's a shame because he was very talented. ~BH
