If our government will not prosecute those who are caught by our background check system then what is the point other than to have that failure to possibly use as coercion at some other time for some other purpose?

If they won't prosecute the ones that they have in their hot little hands why do we have this system?

That's been the complaint of gun rights people like forever . . . If the statutory restraints and hurdles are readily evaded and rarely if ever prosecuted, what is the purpose -- other than harassing and impeding people who are not misusing guns and are not the problem.

Used to be back during the Clinton administration they would brag about the thousands of people who were "blocked' from buying a gun . . . Well, if they lied on the 4473, that was a federal crime but they were just told --no-- and they went on their merry way. You could count the prosecutions for false statements on one hand back then. That lack of prosecution emboldens criminals and frustrates law-abiding citizens, especially when the only remedy for gun crime is calls for more gun control.

During Trump there was a push for prosecuting "lying and trying"; I don't know what the current prosecutorial agenda is now.

If the particulars of these incidents were known, the belief that the "victims" were typical gun owners might be misapplied.
