Here are the rankings currently per the AP and Coaches poll.
I obviously have some issues with them or I wouldnt have started this thread. IMO these rankings should be based on what the teams have done this year to date not what they have done in past years or what we think they might do in the future. Frankly I dont understand why anyone would think we should base current rankings on that, if the things you think will happen end up happening you can adjust the rankings accordingly. Anyway here's my take
1. Tennessee. They have the most impressive resume to date.
2. UGA. Sorry bulldog fans but you havent played anyone as good as Alabama and you have too many close games against weak opponents.
3. Michigan been dominant in every game they've played this year. I dont think they will stay here unless there is bad weather when they play tOSU but their resume is better than their rival to the south thus far.
4. TCU Honestly you could make the argument that they deserve to be 2 or 3 with 4 straight wins against top 25 teams but those teams have since dropped in the over all rankings (yes Im looking at you OU and Kansas) which make those wins look less impressive. Their win against Ok State is a quality win but Michigan's dominance of PSU better.
5. Clemson Wins against Wake and Syracuse (though the Cuse win was closer than it should have been for a team this high).
6. tOSU Have dominated everyone thus far but they havent really played anyone thus far. (and no ND doesnt count as a top 5 win) That changes this week with PSU.
7. Alabama. One loss, 2 very close games against unranked opponents and only one decent win (Miss St). The next 2 weeks the Tide can redeem themselves or drop out of the top 10.
8-10 PSU, USC, Oregon, UCLA, Wake. Any of these teams could be in here in pretty much any order. they all have the same record with similar resumes. None have any realistic shot at breaking into the top 4 regardless of what they do the rest of the year unless everyone ahead of them implodes.
