CBS cancels 'The Late Show,' Stephen Colbert to end program in May 2026

Late night is considered after 10 pm. Primetime is 8-10pm.

The ratings were bad and it was just a matter of time before they pulled the plug.

When your product is not in demand this is what is supposed to happen. As I have never been a consumer of late night talk shows I’m not gonna miss this program.
I am curious though, since the program has a fixed end date, will advertisers continue to buy time?

The show has shed about a quarter of it's viewers since 2024, dropping from 3.6 million to 2.4 million viewers.

Personally I'd rather (and I do from time to time) watch reruns of Johnny Carson. Colbert and Kimmel just aren't funny, and I don't watch them.

The problem with Carson reruns is that it reminds me that they are almost all dead and gone.

I guess having Schiff on was the straw that broke the network's back and caused them to cancel the show. He has that effect on people.

For those of us that have to work, not so much.

The Human Body can't get by and be productive on less than 7 hours of sleep. If you have to get up and get rolling at 6:00AM and you think you can get by on 4 or 5 hours of sleep, you're in for a surprise.

10:00PM is Late.

Most of us don't get Morning and Afternoon naps.

I take my nighttime naps usually between 2 and 4 am. Then I sleep from 6-about 8, and then an afternoon nap from 4-6.

I am retired, so I set my own schedule except when my dogs and cat do it for me. I have an alarm on my watch set for 9 pm so I can choose to watch Gutfeld live or I can wait and watch it later on my DVR,

These shows might have a use and shouldn't all be cancelled. For example, I can see showing them non-stop in prisons. Criminals will think twice before doing something that could land them in prison and have to sit through hours of The View. Of course the democraps will say that is inhumane punishment.

I don’t like all that Trump has done, his spending bill sucks but that gives me no reason to believe he influenced CBS in cancelling a show that has lost 50% of its viewership and at least 50% of its ad revenue from that show, and he isn’t nearly as good as Letterman was.
