I like cats for their utilitarian aspect. In the country where I Iive snakes can be a problem. Cats are a great snake deterrent. I always have several, on the feral side.

Actually, the photographer was probably 30 feet away and the camera set up on a tripod and the cat was probably just intently watching him wondering what he was doing aware that the attention was all being focused (ahem) on him. Cats love being the center of attention.
