In addition to individual crimes like assault, trespassing and destruction of government property, federal prosecutors are investigating “conspiratorial activity” that began before Jan. 6. The Justice Department expects that at least 100 more individuals will be charged, according to the filing.

They're asking for 60 days because they are prosecuting over 400 cases at once.

Poster bripat, there is a term in law...known as a 'declaration against interest'.
Actually it is part of the body of law around 'hearsay' evidence....but the concept could be cut&fitted here, I suppose.

In essence it suggests that a person's statement can be thought to be true where generally the content of the statement is so prejudicial to the person making it that they would not have made the statement unless he believed the statement was true.

Which, I could be persuaded you just did.

I read (or more accurately ---scan) WaPo, PBS, NYT, WSJ, Axios, AP, The Hill and Politico.....most days.

And for me.....your mileage may vary.....but for me, I find all of those newsfeeds as more plausible/credible/believable than I do Midway Pundit, Fox, NewsMax, DailyStormer, Steve Bannon, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, AtomWaffen, or any of the thousands of blogs and sites dedicated to uber-Conservative-think.
But I'm flexible. I feel strongly both ways.

First you must realize that in today’s world all news is propaganda and there are few if any reliable sources for news.

I tended to try to listen to a variety of sources until Trump was elected. Then I started to realize that the liberal news media was accusing him of colluding with Putin and the conservative news media (Fox News) was saying that was false. I decided to see who was right and it turns out there was no proof that Trump ever colluded with Putin although Putin did try to help Trump as he was retaliating against Hillary for interfering in his election.

Of those listed, I occassionally catch ABC News after watching the local news. But basically after the first 10 minutes it is mostly commercials. Their non-political stuff is okay, I find their weather related stories most interesting. As for the Washington Post, all I have to say about the WP is that their video posted on YouTube of the full Trump/Georgia conversation without any commentary was well worth viewing.

There's plenty of good MSM media out there, with local newspapers being rather good at keeping the opinions on the editorial page and out of local news reports. With the past election stories they were a good source and more than once identified the person who screwed up. Then there's also plenty of media catering to industry, trade and fiancial matters that also do well at putting the political side of their business matters in objective context.
