I have been trying to search for a job, for many months. I remember a few years ago, I would send out resume to a few postings and would easily get like 5, 6 interviews. But now, there is pretty much nothing. I made compromises, made sure my availability was good, and tried the best I could to make myself attractive to employers, but still nothing. And it's not just me, people I talk to online also seem to be having trouble finding jobs. It just seems that the economy is really bad right now.
I think a lot of people are happy that Trump won the election. I am sort of happy, in the sense that I am glad it wasn't a Dem who won. But I honestly don't think Trump would do much to make things better for the average people. It's the same in my country. Politicians, they are all the same. They talk a great deal, promising us this and that, but at the end of the day, they enrich themselves and their campaign donors, reward their cronies with money that comes from us, and they don't care about us at all. Nowadays I would settle for a prime minister that does not shaft us too badly. This is a sad thing to aim for, but it's how bad it is.
Companies have waaaaay way way too many qualified people to choose from. Too many people in the labor pool. Shrink the labor pool nicely and there's lots of jobs. Things go better when there are lots of openings.Yes, you need an "in" with a prospective employer anymore. Something that will make HR pluck your resume out of the pile and ensure it gets seen.
And it's frustrating on both sides....both the employer and the people looking for work.
This is because of AI enhanced job searches for those of specialized high skill sets.
A CEO of a company was needing to hire someone for a position and got no one to apply. So, he filled out an application with a fake name and sent to his HR team a CV where he listed work experience that was identical to what he was looking for to fill the position.
It never showed up on his desk. He called his HR team and they said no one had applied or was qualified for his open position. So he fired them all. Got a new HR team and the position eventually got filled.
But what is happening is that HR teams are using AI to scan the CVs and where they might seem magic to many people but they are still quite stupid. They only know very limited data sets.
Specialized, high skill, jobs require a personal relationship with someone in the company you are applying to. Your resume will never be seen otherwise.
Just saying.
Not if you barely got through high school and have no skills. If you want more, you need to increase your market value. As a taxpayer I don't mind paying welfare especially in the world's wealthiest nation. This nation is awash in money. I agree with working but man 50 k is a kick in the face from the nation.
No....Companies have waaaaay way way too many qualified people to choose from. Too many people in the labor pool. Shrink the labor pool nicely and there's lots of jobs. Things go better when there are lots of openings.
Which goes counter to your assertion that American workers are underpaid. The reason the nation is "awash in money" is because people are paid well. That money comes from taxes. Yours and mine. You sure are eager to give away others money. This nation is awash in money.
My mistake, I saw "prime minister" in your opening post and mistakenly assumed that you were in the UK. Sorry.Hello,
I am not in the UK. I am from Canada.
Apparently not. Most burger flippers quit within one year.Americans have forgotten how to compete. Twenty dollar/hr burger flippers is ridiculous. Anyone can perform these duties.
Money is more mobile than people are.Which goes counter to your assertion that American workers are underpaid. The reason the nation is "awash in money" is because people are paid well. That money comes from taxes. Yours and mine. You sure are eager to give away others money.
Why would wages ever come down? You have an artificial belief in what they currently are. They are not as high as you think. So you would be okay if wages came down or please explain
Same difference.Hello,
I am not in the UK. I am from Canada.
You have to live in a high cost area or have no clue about prevailing wages. I made over $50K once in my life, and I was a professional with a Master's. I worked as a government contractor for $38K.As a taxpayer I don't mind paying welfare especially in the world's wealthiest nation. This nation is awash in money. I agree with working but man 50 k is a kick in the face from the nation.
Not what you said.I'm talking a household income. 50 grand is poverty.

If one is working full time and pulling in 50k or under some welfare is appropriate. That's a poverty salary.
Where is this located at?You ain't gonna like this, but recently I was talking to a young fella and he confirmed my suspicion that many companies are not hiring Americans, even firing a lot of them, and filling all positions with illegal foreigners.
What's your skill set, the type of work you've worked in?Hello,
I am not in the UK. I am from Canada.
I made ten dollars an hour in 1983 as a bricklayer. If you work for 10 bucks an hour you're gonna be homeless anyway, or live with someone else. You're not gonna have your own place and eat. It's a waste of time.
