Canada Retaliates

Wrong, idiot.

No, the United States is selling AIM-9X Sidewinder missiles to Canada, not the other way around. The US State Department approved the sale in August 2024 for an estimated cost of $264.6 million.
I was wrong about the Sidewinders. However, missiles are sold to the US by Canada, along with many other defense items.

See post 46.

Oh, I see. You want to pay more for a car.

Why, you must be some kind of genius!

You must be really pleased with tariffs on the steel used to make cars.
I want manufacturing jobs in America. Particularly for products used in America, like cars. I also support every job deemed essential by the government shutdowns to be staffed by Americans. As we learned, those are jobs that have to be done here. If you are hell bent on sending jobs overseas, begin with non-essential services that can be done anywhere, again proven by lockdowns. Such things will not occur overnight nor will it be without some temporary discomfort to see through.

While you Canucks cry about our immigration policies here, know this: when my daughter goes to Canada on business, the border patrol need a letter stating exactly how long she'll be in the nation and for what reason. She has to sign a form stating she will not take "Canadian jobs" (wait, you have those?)

We are SICK of the hypocrisy.

What are you whining about?

Fact: Canadian border patrol does not require any letters from anyone on entering the country. They will ask her how long she’s going to be here and what is the purpose of your trip is and she will be told that she cannot work without a permit. I don’t see what what it is you’re trying to say.

She is allowed into the country. Nobody turned her away. They will ask her what she’s in the country for and she will not be allowed to work while she’s in Canada.

And for the record, these are the same questions that your border patrol asks me when I go into the USA.

Perhaps you should learn what immigration laws are all about before you start making accusations of hypocrisy.

I'm sure you would be all in favor of us opening a huge swath of the North Dakota border to just anyone and everyone, right? We'll stream our illegals right up to ya.

Not true, but if I assumed you were correct, there are those who lose less and get what they want out of it.

We import Sidewinder missiles from Canada.

Do you know what those are?

They are the most used air-to-air missiles in our inventory. We have imported over 100,000 of them.

Omfg lol

Idiot.
Google is your friend occasionally....

No, Sidewinder missiles are not made in Canada, but they are being sold to Canada by RTX Corporation, a US defense company.

You may be thinking to yourself, "I don't buy Canadian cars."

Every car "built in America" is actually made from parts and subassemblies which move back and forth between the US, Mexico, and Canada several times.

When a US company sends parts to be assembled in Canada, they will have to pay Canada's retaliatory import tax.
Yeah, but Canadian tobacco?!

I've already corrected myself about the Sidewinders.

However, see post 46 for a long list of defense items we buy from Canada.

List of products from the United States subject to 25 per cent tariffs effective February 4, 2025

There is going to be a second, broader round of retaliatory tariffs three weeks from now.

You will be paying more for tobacco, produce, household appliances, firearms, military gear, passenger vehicles, trucks, beverages, cosmetics, paper products, steel and aluminum products, certain fruits and vegetables, beef, pork, dairy products and more.

Canada has a $70 billion trade surplus with the US

They have more to lose than we do

That's funny. And ignorant.

Since we buy more stuff from everyone else, that means we are going to pay a lot more for that stuff than they will be paying for ours.

Our trade deficit reached an all-time high during Trump's last trade war.

And a lot of American jobs were lost. And he had to pay big time subsidies to farmers for their suffering due to his trade war.

Trump lost. Bigly.

Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over, expecting a different result.

Trump is a liberal. I keep pointing this out, but his cult keeps ignoring the facts right in front of their pinched little faces.

Protectionism is a far left policy. So liberal, that Biden kept Trump's liberal tariffs in place! How many clues do you people need?

Now let's look at American's trade deficit since Trump and Biden began their little socialist war against the world, shall we?

You know who else enacted protectionist tariffs?

Obama. The archenemy of Trump cultists.

Obama was a protectionist.

Wakey wakey, rubes!

Anyone remember the outcome of Obama's tariffs on tires?

Fun times. Fun times.

Doing the same thing over and over, expecting a different result.

What an idiot you are!! You get called out on your bullshit and you just dig yourself in deeper.

People don't have to sneak into Canada. We have modern, effective immigration laws and processes, allowing both refugees and immigrants into the country. We took in 1.5 million immigrants in each of the last 3 years. That the equivalent of YOU taking 15 million immigrants per year.

Care to try again? You just never tire of making yourself look ridiculous.

January 2022:

Why Biden is keeping Trump’s China tariffs in place

President Joe Biden reversed a number of the Trump administration’s policies during his first year in office – but he has left tariffs in place on $350 billion of Chinese goods that were imposed by his predecessor.

Some of those tariffs, which are paid by American importers, have been in place for nearly four years. Former President Donald Trump’s controversial trade war with China began in 2018 when he slapped tariffs on $50 billion of Chinese-made goods. Over the next year, he added duties to more items after Beijing retaliated with tariffs on some American-made products.

Marxist Joe Biden kept Trump's Marxist protectionist tariffs in place!

That worked out so well, too!

Oh wait...

Tariffs imposed by china will raise prices for canadians

Or they may decide not to buy

In our case we may choose not to buy from canada

Our entire auto industry is dependent on free trade between the US and Mexico and Canada. Remember Trump rebranding NAFTA as USMCA? Now he's shooting himself in the face.

I posted earlier in this topic how auto parts move back and forth between our three nations. There really is no such thing as a car "Made in the USA" any more.

This is not something you can just shut off like a tap.

There are many other such examples.

The funny thing is, Trump brags how he's going to do this and do that. He's full of shit. He never passed an infrastructure bill. Biden did. Trump never passed any legislation to increase manufacturing jobs. Biden did.

In fact, the construction of manufacturing plants began exploding in Biden's last year and will result in many thousands of new manufacturing jobs for which Trump will take credit and claim his far left tariff war is responsible.

Here's proof Trump and Biden's socialist warfare on free trade does not work:
