the Mormons believe, that the Universe is full of different Gods.
Is that Christian?
Here is a quote from the Apostle Paul:
1 Corinthians 8:4-6
4 As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.
5 For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (
as there be gods many, and lords many,)
6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.
In this verse Paul tell the Corinthians that idols are nothing and to all of us in this world there is none other God but one who according to verse 6 is God the Father and Jesus Christ. However, verse 5 is interesting and Paul tells us that there are gods many and lords many whether in heaven or in earth. Those in this earth are the children of God and Jesus himself calls them gods.
Psalms 82:6
6 I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.
In this verse God established that his children are considered to be gods. Jesus confirms this verse in the following verse:
John 10:31-36
31 Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.
32 Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?
33 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.
34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?
35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;
36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?
In this verse Jesus refers back to Psalms 82:6 to defend against the Jews who labelled him as a blasphemer for teaching he was God. Jesus replies by quoting Psalms 82:6 and asks them why they would consider it blasphemy if their own law teaches that all the children of God are gods. So from this we learn that Jesus was the giver of their law and that he considers all the children of God to be gods. Some have tried to muddle this verse by trying to change the meaning of Psalms 82:6 to mean "judges" instead of "gods". But Jesus quotes this verse and uses the verse in the context in which he himself gave it, ie to mean "gods". If we, as the children of God, are considered by the Lord Jesus Christ to be gods, then Paul is correct that in this earth there are many gods but clarifies that there is to us but one God the Father and one Lord Jesus Christ. Just because other gods exist does not mean that they rule over us and have all authority over heaven and earth. All mankind will eventually be resurrected and live in eternity. At that point will they lose their status as being children of God and be considered to be gods as Jesus considered them to be while on the earth? I think not. Thus there are, as Paul would teach to the Corinthians, gods many and lords many in both heaven and in earth. But God our eternal Father in Heaven has all authority and power and along with his Only Begotten Son Jesus Christ is the only one true God whom we should worship and follow for our salvation and exaltation.
In Matthew 5:48 Jesus teaches that we should be perfect even our Father in Heaven is perfect. The question is whether we were given this commandment to become the same as the Father when Jesus knew all along that we could never accomplish this or did he give us this commandment because it is possible that we can become as perfect, in all ways, as the Father is perfect? I tend to believe that Jesus wasn't tricking anybody but truly taught us what is possible and commanded it. So yes, I believe it is Christian since Jesus himself taught it.
