I think the better question is, can the republicans? If they dropped Trumpism and pitched a big tent, they could dominate politics in this country for decades. Instead, they are hitching their wagon to a prize racehorse whose prime has long fled by.

Republicans have been ramping up Trumpism for 50 years. It's not going anywhere.

Democrats have lost sight of what equal rights even means. It used to mean equal rights under the law - meaning that we're all treated equally by government. But, now they've become fixated on ensuring that we're all treating each other equally. Which requires decidedly un-equal treatment by government.
