Zackly. And then they'll blissfully ignore that intimidation and start crowing about how "they should have brought it up at the time", oblivious to the fact that at the time the social structure didn't permit bringing it up.

So either way she loses. First they make it impossible and/or impractically costly to say anything, then if they bring it up anyway, they start whining that she didn't break through the barriers they themselves set up, and are still setting up.
