But I thought tariffs didn't increase prices!

Well, maga, you have been played, BIG TIME!!
We knew it all along, that Trump's beloved tariffs are nothing more than a heavy, debilitating, punitive tax on American consumers, especially hurting the poor. But, since day 1, Trump has spewed nonsense BS that tariffs are paid by the nation he imposes them on. If so, why stop the "trillions of dollars pouring into our country," in order to help Americans at the grocery store? Makes no sense.
It's nothing more than a full admission by Trump that his tariffs were taxes all along. Some of us were smart enough to see that! You been played, maga. Why not just admit that you are nothing more than Trump suckers! Bigly!!!
Consumers only pay tariffs if they buy imported goods, even then only about 22% of the tariff, see link below.
When consumers don't buy tariff items, that hurts the country that produces those products.
Why do you think China blinked when Trump put a 100% tariff on their goods?

In fact, U.S. consumers absorbed 22% of tariff costs through June, and that number is expected to rise to 67% by October, according to an analysis from Goldman Sachs, CNN reported.

Tariffs are a very useful tool to protect us producers, to enhance National Security, and to raise needed revenue.

But, as we're told, that doesn't happen.
And you believed it?

BTW: Did you know that the 2025 fiscal deficit was revised down 200,000,000,000 due to the tariffs.

Someones going to pay to bring the deficit down if congress idiots won't cut spending.

Take your pick.

BTW: Every economics textbook I've ever read says tarriffs impact prices somewhere in the supply chain up to and including the consumer. I guess they were right.

Getting back to the thread topic.

Do tariffs increase the price paid by US consumers?

The answer is yes, but only an average 22% of the tariff, and that only if they buy the imported product.

I did? Quote that please.
Why is it that the United States should be subject to tariffs from around the world, but we shouldn't tariff anyone? Why not just get tariff's to zero for everyone, including us?

Exactly what Trump claimed.

He's panicking.

Coffee and fruit prices have always been affected by weather also. Not any issue here.

Tariff rates are not carved into Mt. RUSHMORE you dumb OX. As posted above they can be removed 100% if reciprocated//

I agree, but these things are not an overnight fix. I’d love to see tariffs at zero globally. That is truly free market, right? But, we shouldn’t be subjected to unfair tariffs while no one else is.

But, that has nothing to do with what you claimed, and I asked you to prove.

So if consumers absorb 22% of a 50% tariff, they just paid an additional 11% in tax on the good.

So I don't think you made the awesome point you think you just made.

That is only true if the consumer continues to choose the foreign made product....

Which they have, else the data of which we are speaking would not exist.
They have for the moment....It takes time to get manufacturing up to speed producing these goods...All I can speak for is myself, and when I go to buy something, I do my best to buy American made products....It's not always possible...

yea we do mac....
@ThisIsMe
Why is it that Trumpsters think that the only way to do something is the chaotic caveman way?

Why don't they understand that we can agree on an issue -- such as optimizing tariff policy -- but disagree on how to approach it?

Is this REALLY all that ******* complicated for them? Is this really THAT FAR over their freaking heads?

Here we go with "but I don't like the methods of the bad Orange man" again and again.

Deeply sighing//
