You could be forgiven not knowing the name of Tony Oxley--- he was essentially a self-taught drummer, pianist and record producer who chiefly worked as a session musician with other people, so, while you might not know the name, if you are into jazz and British rock, chances are good that you have at least one record with him on it.
He was a house drummer at the famed Ronny Scotts in London where he met many famous musicians and struck up alliances with them, including everyone from Stan Getz, Sonny Rollins, John Surman, Paul (and Carla) Bley who also just passed away, Georgie Fame, Vangelis and Bill Evans, to performing on John McLaughlin's breakout album Extrapolation after leaving Miles Davis.
Tony passed away today at the age of 85.
