Brian Wilson

Hard to argue that. If I were going to argue it I'd say
"Weird Al" Yankovic's albums have sold an estimated 70 million copies worldwide
This reminds me of Ringo. He sucks but he's a Beatle so he's a legend. They try to say he has a "unique" way of drumming but it's probably just the wrong way to play. The way he taught himself in Liverpool. Ringo pulled off the "fake it till you make it" move. LOL.

You know who I loved that was corny? Crosby Stills and Nash. Now those guys are legends. Crosby, Stills & Nash, as a trio, have sold around 9.8 million albums worldwide.

So yea I guess 100 million is legendary. LOL
Buffalo Springfield is kind of the origin of Crosby Stills and Nash. I saw them in San fransisco at a free concert with Neil Young in honor of Bill Grahm

The Beach Boys are just creepy to me. I saw a movie about them not too long ago. Didn't one of them get mixed up with the Manson family? Let's put it this way. After seeing the story, if you asked me if I would have liked to be a member of the Beach Boys, I'd say no fucking way.

And then I hear that song "lying in bed just like Brian Wilson did" by Barenaked Ladies. It bothers me. What is it about? Why is this guy such a legend?

The song generally tells the story of a man whose life parallels that of the Beach Boys' Brian Wilson, particularly during his time spent with psychologist Eugene Landy after Wilson was diagnosed with mental illness, and, more broadly, with lyrics about suffering from comorbid mental illness and obesity.

Why is it this guy is such a legend?

I agree BB music is a little creepy, somehow, but their music is clearly genius and I like them a lot.
I first met him
In Burlington Vermont with the pet sounds 50th.

I'll be the first one to say that that
Pet sounds is a bit tedious.

There are two expressions in the music business,
it's all about the music
and the cream rises to the top.

Brian was both. 🙂

I'm trying to get you guys to explain to me his greatness. Eulogize him PLEASE. Post songs or things he did that prove his greatness. I know he's great. I just don't appreciate him same as I don't love Elvis. But I know he's great! So I might push some buttons to get you to defend (defensive). I just want to know.

Howard Stern was talking about some artist he never appreciated growing up but now he's into him. Someone explained how great the guy was and why and now he's all into him. In fact I'm sick of hearing about it.

I always explain it this way. I'm jealous of people who LOVE something I don't. A tv show, a sport, an artist. I wish I got as much enjoyment out of Breaking Bad as others do. But I'm more Malcomb in the Middle. LOL

What made Wilson great was his constant pushing of the musical envelope. He was always searching for better ways to communicate his ideas to his audience.

He eventually stopped touring with the band so he could concentrate on his studio work, much of which he recorded with the Wrecking Crew as his backup band.

Pretty much every band after them has been influenced by Wilson's music, and arrangement, and production methods.

When it comes to who influenced more musicians it's hard to top Brian Wilson.

They definitely told that part of his life in the movie I watched.

Even the movie was boring. LOL. It didn't do a great job at making me fall in love with the Beach Boys and get me listening to their music. It was a sad story. I wouldn't want to be any of them. Wasn't one of them a tormented soul or sick?

Here's a movie about an artist that got me into the band. The Doors with Val Kilmer.

Prince and Purple Rain

Fair enough
Brian was a kind and gentle man
he was pleasant to be around
part of his greatness is his story.
Along the way is mind was sort of hijacked by a guy named Dr Eugene Landy.
It was a true Stockholm relationship.

Watch the movie love and mercy.
It's really wonderful.
Start with endless Summer the album.

Thank you for your curiosity.

i was a big doors fan.....during Easter break at the Colorado river their music was heard a lot.....so were the moody blues...

Which songs do you love the most? Can you name 2 or 3?
For me it's all about the Harmony girls on the beach is wonderful.

That's Brian singing through the break.

Brian was a studio musician his Joy was in the production.

He was meticulous.

Again watch love and mercy.
It's a beautiful movie I think he actually liked it.

I know. I know this guy is LEGENDARY but all I see is weirdo. He must have been a genius.

Often called a genius for his novel approaches to pop composition and mastery of recording techniques, he is widely acknowledged as one of the most innovative and significant songwriters of the 20th century. His best-known work is distinguished for its high production values, complex harmonies and orchestrations, vocal layering, and introspective or ingenuous themes. He was also known for his versatile head voice and falsetto, which degraded after the 1970s.

How about Some people don't realize that Glen Campbell was a very good guitar player &:even did session work. He would play guitar on some of Elvis' hits. I heard he was GREAT at Guitar but the producers told him less guitar and more corny cheesy singing.

I think that a lot of truly talented people are abused by those around them who recognize the talent and seek to exploit it. Michael Jackson, Prince, Beyonce, Britney Spears, and others have all been subjected to abuse by parents who recognized the talent and sought to profit from it.

All of these people had their father's handling their early careers, including the Beach Boys, and all fired their fathers as soon as they were old enough to take control. That this abuse results in drug abuse or mental illness so often, is hardly surprising. As one recovering addict once said to me "The gateway drug is ALWAYS trauma".

He was innovative and took a lot of risks musically.
He didn't care for touring.
Was kind of bored on stage.
There were others like that Harry Nilsson comes to mind.

There's a songwriter myself I learned an incredible amounts,. Most of all no matter what
Make it original
&
original and he was.
